Looking for Less Intense Exercise Ideas

Hi all!

I'm getting LASIK surgery next week & although I am really excited to be getting rid of my glasses, I am also worried about my potential exercise downfall afterwards. My doctor says I cannot perform any intense exercise for a week after surgery, so no swimming or circuit training, etc. I'm supposed to not do anything which might cause sweat to run down into my eyes, or any kind of activity where I could potential hit myself in the eye area.

Can you help me out with some suggestions for alternative exercises? And where I have been doing so well with my weight loss, I really want to keep it up so I'm looking for things with high calorie burns.

Thanks! :D

Can you wear a sweat band to deal with sweating? If not, I'd say walking, maybe mild cycling (a stationary bike might be good, since there is a much lower chance of having an accident)?

Oh, and congrats on getting rid of the glasses!

Have fun with this! I would do fun things that aren't necessarily "exercise" per se but are fun thing to do that happen to burn calories. For example, instead of going out to dinner or for coffee with friends, go dancing or ice skating. Both of those will burn a lot of calories but won't necessarily make you sweat a lot. Also, going for a long walk or hike depending on the weather where you are.

    Thanks !!
Those are good ideas and to be honest I hadn't really thought about simple things like walking... I try to keep up with really high energy activities.
    I appreciate the help :)

I agree on the walking maybe break into a little jog. Do a fitness video at home, some star jumps and skipping.

What about just fast paced walking or even a run, i find that cause its outdoors u don't get as sweaty.

Funny, but when I had my surgery six years ago I don't remember this advice!!! Anyway, I agree with brisk walking, and if you do some mild weights, you could always wear some safety shield type glasses to avoid hitting yourself in the eye. A sweat band should be helpful as well. It's only for a few days, after that you'll be good to go!

Seriously, do NOT remember them telling me any of this, but I probably didn't pay attention as I was a couch potato back then. Good luck!

Yeah safety glasses wouldn't be a bad idea!

I thought it was kind of interesting advice, but it's my eyes so I'm willing to try anything to make sure that my healing goes as smoothly as possible!

Guess I'll invest in some warm gear to start wearing to walk/jog outside!

I am enjoying dance games on the Nintendo Wii such as Zumba or Just Dance... you can make them as intense as you like or put them on a beginner level so you don't work as hard and end up sweating a lot. Just walking around the block or going on a stationary bike is also ideal. Have you thought about doing some exercises using just your body... like lunges, push ups, squats?
