So! I've manage to lose some weight (I'm down to 10stone now!! yay!!)

This week, I am starting some weight training at the gym - because I need some muscle conditioning and definition. I will obviously be helping this by trying to eat the calories that I need. I will still be doing a few cardio classes to help my fitness as well.

I am also starting to drink all of the water that I am supposed to. I went on wateraid.org and it told me that I need to be drinking 11 x 250ml glasses of water a day. I probably drink 3/4 at the moment! I'm a little bit worried that I am going to retain water and gain weight this week.

Does anyone have any advice for me?

Tiffani x

That sounds like a lot of water but if you're exercising a lot you'll probably need it. You'll probably sweat a lot of it off at the gym anyway. :)

I'm pretty sure if you're exercising as much as you say, you won't retain too much water. I was a bit dubious about how much water is the 'right amount' for weight loss. I've started drinking more now and i'm finding it's actually helping, not hindering the weight loss. An added bonus is that it makes you feel fuller so you're less likely to have any hunger pangs if you suffer from these (mid afternoon lulls are my worst!)
Well done on your loss so far, and good luck with the next phase x

    Hey Tiffani,

I have always heard that you should always have 8 glasses of water per day however if you're working out at the gym or exercising, whatever water you drink there and then doesn't count. So your 11 glasses of water per day sounds pretty accurate. I have boosted my water up & I am trying to drink 8 glasses of water a day (sometimes it's so hard!!!) but I haven't found it to affect any weight loss measurements. Besides, when you weigh yourself it should be first thing in the morning before you have breakfast and after you go to the toilet for 1 & 2 (eww). I would never weigh myself after a eating all day and drinking all that water.

I absolutely loveeee doing weights at the gym!!! Have fun!!

the more hydrated you are the less you retained because your body doesn't need it. you retain more water at slightly dehydrated as your body hangs on to it!

This. Drinking a lot of water does not cause water retention.
