Hi and Welcome to MFP. You will get out of this program exactly what you put into it.

Look for like minded people, and ignore posts that bother you. Remember you are here to get healthy.

If you THINK healthy, you will BE thin.

For me it all boiled down to learning, and listening, and googleing and doing.......and thinking about what I eat.

I know for me, I would eat a bagel, and entire bagel. That is what you do, right? There is a bagel, no matter the size, 1 bagel is a serving, right?

NO!

Maybe you need to share it with a friend, or cut it in half so you can add peanut butter to your side. Or maybe the bagel is not the best choice, just because you love bagels (and maybe BECAUSE you love bagels:wink: ), doesn't mean you have to eat one.

My point here is the 1st thing for anyone to do (in my humble opinion) is to THINK about what they are doing. Take a week. Look at what you eat normally and think about it. Do I need that much food, was that a good or a bad choice, was there another better choice at my disposal?

Think about exercise. Get it into your mind as part of your day. Park in the back of the parking lot or walk to the store. Take the stairs, walk a lap on the walking path, park on the other side of your building at work, use the bathroom on the 2nd floor. There are so many ways to get moving!!

Good luck!! I know you can do it!!

Thanks for the reminders! Last night we tried a new healthy recipe for dinner. When it was done I looked at the pan and thought, this is supposed to be six servings? To me it looked like it would just be enough for my husband and me. I measured out the 1 cup serving, ate it and boy did I want more. However, I didn't have more and once I was up from the table and moving around I was satisfied! Just a few short weeks ago I would have eaten half of the pan (or 3 servings) and not thought about it. I am finding that measuring and logging my food has helped so much.

awesome! that is exactly what I am talking about. I remember the 1st time I made pasta and sauce after I started here. I read the box and thought 2 oz., you have GOT to be kidding me. Turned out it was 1 cup of cooked pasta and filled my plate! (well I use a smaller plate now:bigsmile: )

But the 1 meatball, 1 cup pasta, 1/2 cup of sauce and big salad was more than enough food.

    Glad your doing well here!!

Thank you so much for your words of advise. Coming from one who seldom 'thought' of what she was doing when it came to food, I needed to hear your words. I am more conscious than ever before when it comes to portion size, calorie/fat intake and 'do I want it because I am hungry?' or 'do I want it because it looks so damn good?'

I have only been with mfp now for a little over one week but my choices are beginning to pay off. I had a 6 pound loss ( I haven't done measurements yet) and am drinking more than the suggested 8 cups of water a day.

My husband is starting to pay a little attention too. I don't say one word (so not to discourage him) but I have witnessed him doing a little more 'thinking' as well.

God bless this site and God bless you good people for your support, input and overall good spiritedness. I am looking forward to learning and getting to know as many of you as I can.

This is so true. I've always tried to take the stairs, or park farther back (I drive a full size truck, so I can never find a close place to park anyway), but I never realized what was in an actual serving of most foods. and once I counted/measured, I was surprised that I was satisfied with one serving. It is the little things that started me out in my weight loss, and I have just added to it with more exercise.
