Sleep cycle

So thanks to the winter break, my sleep schedule is completely off. I have been staying up anywhere from 2-4 am and sleeping until after noon! If I set an alarm, I sleep right through it. I will go to bed at a decent time, and just lay there foreverrrrr!

Any suggestions on how to get my body back on a normal sleep cycle?

But seriously, go to bed earlier (I'd suggest btween 9pm-10pm) so that you'll naturally wake up earlier. Even if you just lay in bed with your eyes closed, your body still recognizes it as "resting" even though you haven't entered REM sleep. If you sleep through your alarm, have someone wake you up! Whether its your mom waking you up before she leaves for work or your sister waking you up before she leaves for school. I find that once I'm awake, I can't fall back asleep until later that night (yeah, I can't take naps).

Remember, sleeping too much is just as bad as sleeping too little. Good luck!

You should always aim to wake up at the same time everyday. So your body gets used to it. Even if you're tired you should wake up!
  • Melatonin is a natural sleep aid. It comes in supplement form. You might try taking this for a few night so you can fall asleep earlier and get back on your sleep cycle.

Try counting your sleep up in half hours. So for example go to bed 2am set alarm for 10am or 10.30am. I didn't think much of this advice till I tried it myself. It meant that when I woke up I felt more awake and ready for the day.
If it works for you, what to try is half an hour earlier each night or every two nights till you find a pattern that works. :-)

This the best tool I have found for sleep. My sister sent this to me and I love it. I just wish there was an app for it.
