Several times, I have seen the question posed regarding which fruits and veggies are best. I have compiled a data reference about the different options and the health benefits in my blog: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/iddreams/view/eat-the-rainbow-for-health-195740

Check it out and tell me what you think!

Great article! Wish I liked a variety of fruits and veggies, but I only like a few, which makes eating healthy hard for me. My hubby is always telling me I need more fruits and veggies, but I have just never really liked them. Maybe I can acquire a taste for some new things...

well, actually after reviewing the list again and making an actual list of what I do like, it is more than I thought, but still not enough to get a good variety from.... :(

Try different preparations and cooking times. Some or more palatable in other forms.

I don't like cauliflower but I can tolerate it if it is roasted and spicy.
I only like lightly cooked cabbage or raw cabbage. I tend to make coleslaw with vinaigrette instead of mayo.

You might find a veggie you hate raw is great steamed or grilled. I made a slad with raw sweet potato and it was excellent. Sounds crazy but it worked.

At least you like some! I found that to aquire new tastes in things, I mix in new with old. I love roasted carrots, so last night, added rutabega, parsnips, and turnips. It was delish, and I will definitely make it again.

Also grilling or roasting changes the flavor of vegetables significantly, so if you don't like fresh, try those ways instead. Make it a point to buy a new vegetable each time you go to the store. I never liked brussel sprouts as a kid because my mom cooked them until they were mush. I find I enjoy them now baked with a little lemon and garlic while still al dente

    That is awesomely put together!!!

And people should remember that their veggie intake should be higher than their fruit intake.

Most people opt for fruit just because it is sweet and neglect the veggies which are by far more beneficial.

Just keep trying them. If you are eating more on the clean side than the processed side your taste buds will change and you will find you start liking some you never liked before.

I love roasted brussels when they get crispy on the outside! Brussels + Bacon = good combo!

I've also grilled brussel sprouts too. I love to grill my veggies in the summer...soooo flavorful! During the winter I roast them in the oven or steam them. I never boil my veggies because it leeches out the nutrients, and I only buy fresh or frozen...never canned.

So what do some of you do to ensure you get enough roughage in your diets?

I eat enough Fat and vegetables that I am well greased and regulated on the inside as well as getting lots of water too.

Fat and water are more important than the roughage from vegetables. I only eat as many veggies as I do for the vitamin content.

The amount of fiber the government recommends is highly inaccurate, especially when fat and water are far more important.

A certain amount of fat is okay, but getting enough fruits and vegetables is far more important than fats, and the fats must be healthy sources, such as olive oil, etc. A person who is on a normal diet should be eliminating waste at least twice per day to ensure a healthy colon. Both soluable and insoluable fibers are essential to keeping things working. Fat will actually slow down the elimination process rather than help it along. This is why so many people have health issues and problems with weight - too much fat, not enough fiber and healthy eating. The amount that the government recommends for fiber is actually a little on the low side, especially for people with diets rich in fat and carbs.
