Hi Guys,
Is there any golden "mantra" on breathing while exercising.
I have to remember when to breath in and out while doing some strength training. Does the timing of breathing matter at all and if it does, is there any golden rule?

I always get it wrong, when I do sit ups I always breathe out when I'm supposed to breathe in. It's so hard to remember haha.

I believe it is exhale on the concentric movement and inhale on the eccentric movement.

There is no scientific evidence to say how and when it was a selling point of a trainer years ago. You subconsciously hold your breath when pushing, thats natural it can also help fix you in place and core. Obviously if you are pushing a car, what is the first thing you do........big breath in and push!!

so long as you are comfortable it does not matter.

Thanks, I might sound novice here but what exactly are concentric and eccentric movements :)

    An Example...

Bench Press: The concentric phase will be the push action and the eccentric would be the lowering of the weights to your chest.

Eccentric is always the lowering of the weights

    Thanks for that.

Am I correct in understanding that in the movement when your body is "working", breath out. be is stretching in yoga or lifting weights
and breath in when body is coming in the relaxed(relatively) position.
