I want to run a 5K at the end of April or beginning of May!

I've started back on the C25K, this time more slowly and following it more accurately so I don't hurt myself again. I want to run a 5K in April or May. Should I go ahead and sign up for one now, so I am committed or should I wait until I know I can run 3-4 miles without an injury? I am on week 4 day 2 today.
Any advice is welcome!

I was wondering the same thing. I don't want to spend the $ to sign up for mine cuz I think what if I don't finish the training and I can't do it. I am a penny pincher and don't wanna lose the cash. But at the same time I think it would keep me motivated. I can't wait to see the advice. I am on week 3 day 3 today! Good Luck! And keep it up!0

Yeah, it's one of those things where if I go ahead and pay, I will feel obligated to do it. But I don't want to end up injured and unable to do it.
Good luck to you, too!0 -
Go ahead and sign up. Most 5k's at least in my area have plenty of walkers, too, so if you can't run the whole thing it isn't a big deal. Signing up gives me the motivation to prepare. I didn't think I would like running with tons of other people, but I found it to be very exciting and everyone is so friendly. My 5k times in actual races are usually better than ones on my own.0

Definitely go ahead and sign up! By doing so you are providing yourself with what possibly might be the needed motivation to complete the training program. Also, if ya can't run the whole 5k its no big deal. Plenty of walkers or run/walkers at every 5k and 10k I have ran. 5k runs are so much fun!0

Thanks for the responses! I did walk a 5K back in October, I couldn't run it because I had pushed to fast on the C25K. I think I will go ahead and sign up for it. That way I am committed to doing it!0

Could you expand on what happened during training that make you unable to run the 5k? I am also planning a 5k soon, and want to avoid any self sabotage.0 -

I followed the C25K program loosely and ended up running longer than the plan called for. Basically, I finished the program in about 5 weeks instead of the 9 weeks that the program calls for. On top of that, I was stretching after, but not before. I might have been able to handle doing it that way when I was in my twenties or early thirties, but I'm 45 and my body doesn't recover as easily as it did when I was younger.0
