Sounds crazy but...

Sounds crazy but does anyone feel like they have a weight problem because they don't like food?
I know that sounds crazy, but I find myself thinking that sometimes. It seems I only like things if they are covered up in oil, butter, salt, cream, or cheese. I never ate breakfast, until I started here. I don't jump out of bed wanting something to eat. Then when the pills I took start to do a number on my empty stomach, I start looking for something to make it shut up. I don't eat meat, I can stand an egg but only if I cover each bite up in a bite of bread. run out of bread and can't eat the egg. It has been my practice for years to reach for a bag of chips or a box of crackers for my first "meal" of the day.

So here I am now eatting breakfast, and each and every day, it seems like an unwanted chore. What do I eat to make my stomach shut the hell up. I have a whole cubboard of different kinds of oatmeal. I have a few I think are pretty good, but they would be wonderful with a half a stick of butter and three or 4 spoons of sugar and 4 or 5 peices of heavly buttered toast torn up and dipped in the oatmeal. So I just eat the bland oatmeal, and consider breakfast over and go on. But I am now pretty burned out on bland oats. Put off by eggs, downed with dry toast. Today I ate a cup of split pea soup for breakfast. Some days I go for cheese and bread.
This life style change is working for me and I am losing weight. Feeling so much better already, but will the day ever come when I love celery without dipping it in ranch, loading it with pimento cheese and shaking the salt shaker over every bite? I used to like a lean cusine for lunch, ok change that to 2 lean cusines for lunch; but did I eat them the way they were intended or did I smother them in grated cheese, add butter and sour cream, and shake some more salt on an already tub of sodium filled tub of starch. Ok I just realized this is supposed to be a post on the msg board and not a blog so I will shut up and let someone else talk.

I used to be similar. I like sugary cereal, anything sugary. It takes a few weeks of not excessive butter, salt, and sugar to start to appreciate how food tastes without it. I like oats. Okay, I LOVE oats. I have cold plain oatmeal with a chopped apple a drizzle of honey and oatmilk or vanilla almond milk. You can add all sorts of things to oatmeal to make it tasty. Raisins, any kind of fruit. It doesn't have to be plain and boring. Maybe have a smoothie for breakfast instead. You can even throw your oatmeal in the smoothie. Almond milk (or milk of you choice), frozen fruit, and honey or stevia to taste, and you have a delicious healthy quick breakfast.

I can kind of relate, except I love food. Like, it really makes me happy, especially sweet, creamy, buttery things. What I have had to do in order to still enjoy food, is find more healthy alternatives. Smart Balance butter, PAM cooking spray, Truvia, sugar free syrup, etc. etc. Years ago when I first made those switches, it was hard. Now I know it is better me and my family. They don't complain cause the food taste just as good, if not better. You can do it. Grieve for your butter and sugar and then make the change.
  • No not crazy. Some foods I stopped eating because I realised I didn,t likethe taste. For me I don,t like any form of potato including fries . I would put half a jar of tomato sauce on them. Don,t like lamb or pork but I used to eat them covered in sauce. I do like salad . I make up a bowl baby leaves and feta onion ect . I do have a dressing use colslaw with a yoghurt dressing , or I dry fry a red onion and a tomato and maybe mushroom and put it hot on the salad. You need to find a new breakfast . Do you like beans? Think you have to find out what you like , and eat lower calorie version .

I just had this thought also... If you like to eat heavier in the morning, or even just feel like eating soup or beans, do it. I can't see what difference it makes as long as you are still making good choices and staying in your calories. When I worked nights, I ate cereal for breakfast at 4pm and chicken for dinner at 3am. I weighed less then, than now.

I'm not a big breakfast eater. I have to be in a mood for cereal or oatmeal. And, I never normally have time to sit and eat breakfast. My solution is a smoothie. It only takes about 5 minutes to make and I can put in a cup and sip on the way to work. They are full of vitamins and nutrients. The ones I make have at least 3 servings of fruits and 3 servings of veggies. I know it sounds crazy but my favorite smoothie is: 8oz coconut water, 1 fresh banana, 1 cup frozen cherries, 1/2 cup frozen pineapple, and 3 big handfuls of spinach and blend. I promise you will not taste the spinach. It just adds extra nutrients and is a great way to help get your daily servings of fruits and veggies in.
I love food. I was raised in a family where everything tastes better if it's fried. I also got to where in college and after I started working where I am now I would eat out at fast food places at least 4-5 times a week. I seriously think large fast food corporations put chemicals in their food that make them addicting. I always joked with co-workers that I think Chick-fil-A feeds their chickens crack because it's so good. But, I am so happy to say that it's been over 2 weeks since I've had anything fried. Slowly, you will feel proud of the healthy choices you are making and then when you do eat something fried or unhealthy, you'll regret it..and realize eating healthier actually tastes and feels so much better.
I found a poster yesterday that says, "If you eat healthy, you'll feel healthy; if you eat crap, you'll feel like crap. It's as simple as that." And this really is true. I didn't go to the gym and I got up late and didn't have time for my smoothie so I just had a banana, and I really don't feel as well as I do when I start my mornings off right! :) It will get better.
