Symptomes

•Missing work, parties or other appointments in order to workout
•Working out with an injury or while sick
•Becoming seriously depressed if you can't get a workout in
•Working out for hours at a time each day
•Not taking any rest or recovery days

Serious question....are we not taking it too far when it come to exercise? Do you think you suffer from it? We usually say something when people do not eat enought....but do we say something when people exercise too much?

I think this is an important topic. I have a few friends who suffer from over working their bodies.

It's sad. I don't know what to do for them.

when im well i exercise every day, some days i take it easier though at the weekend with a gentle walk... i dont think its a problem at all...
  • I think people get a little too crazy into it. Exercise is supposed to better the quality of life, not keep you from living it

I don't know if I would say it's a "taboo" subject. I think it's not talked about more because we've all been taught that exercise is a good thing and that we should all push ourselves for perfection. My P.E. teacher in high school was really bad about this. He told us that "The human body is not a toaster, folks. The more you use it, the better it gets."

I used to have this problem... I was dumped because I was "too fat" and it took a huge toll on my self esteem. I tracked my calories and joined a gym. Seems healthy right? Not too fast... I made sure I burned EVERY calorie I consumed. I lost an average of .5 lbs per day and dropped 60lbs in 2 1/2 months. My immune system crashed and had to be hospitalized. I was thin but sickly. Now I gained about half of it back and I'm doing this the right way!

Luckily my schedule helps to prevent this from happening for me, because I can't make the gym every day even if I want to. But when my schedule eases up and I have the ability to go every day, I'll make sure to force myself one rest day. Even if on those days I want to be at the gym, I know that rest is just as important to getting in shape as the exercise is.

I think exercise bulimia is probably a problem that more people here suffer from than would like to admit.
