Hi There. Do you guys have any experience with cooking lentils? I had a really bad first experience, I think it was the recipe though. I think I could really like lentils if I made them properly. Any suggestions?

Whenever I'm looking for recipes, I go to RecipeZaar... which is now Food.com (http://www.food.com/). Generally has better recipes than Allrecipes (fewer "add a couple cans of cream of mushroom soup"), has reviews, and most helpful for some of us, nutritional breakdown.

I love lentils, myself. :) What kind of lentils did you try? Because while I love red/orange/yellow lentils, I'm not particularly fond of green ones...
  • I used the goya lentils, this was the recipe I used http://allrecipes.com/recipe/spinach-lentil-soup-2/detail.aspx. I laughed when I read your "mushroom soup" comment because I guess I didn't realize until just then how many recipes there are like that on there. Thanks for the food.com suggestion.

I love lentils and cook with them often. There are three basic types - red, brown, and French or puy lentils. The brown and the French CAN be interchanged, but never exchange brown/French and red. The red lentils are the softest and are usually used in soups or other dishes that doesn't require them to maintain their shapes. I generally use brown lentils. I'll make a lentil taco filling that is super yummy. I use this recipe http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Spiced-Lentil-Tacos-351390 and sub vegan sour cream.

My very favorite recipe is a Lebanese lentils and rice dish. That recipe is on my blog: http://vegancajun.blogspot.com/search/label/lentils.
