Whoa. Think I Need to Adjust My Goal Weight

So I have been tracking my body fat percentage, but I just learned how to use it to do some calculations. And I'm pretty fascinated.
As of yesterday, my weight was 179.4 lbs and body fat was 32.3 %
That means that my body is currently carrying 57.946 lbs of JUST FAT. If I That's how much I would have to lose to have a zero body fat percentage, which would put me at 121.45 lbs. Haha I think there was a time when I set my goal weight at 125 lbs. That's clearly not going to happen.
Now my goal body fat percentage is 23%, which would put me right in the middle of the "fitness" category of body fat percentages.
If I calculate LBM of 121.45 / (1-0.23) = 157.727 should be my ideal weight. Currently I have it set to 140. That's technically do-able, but would put me right at the edge of carrying only the essential fat needed to survive. 135 lb (was my goal until recently) would put me at 10%, which is the minimum essential for women.
AND those calculations are just based on me not losing muscle, never mind the fact that I want to GAIN muscle, which will make my body fat percentage lower on its own.
Interesting. I'm very glad I did this and am probably going to reset my goal weight to 155 lbs.

Wow good for you for taking the time to research and readjust your goals as needed. I never thought about body fat in that sense and maybe I should incorporate that into my goals as well.
Thanks!0 -

How did you work out your body fat percentage?
I'm just above 140lbs and 5ft 3 and half and according to wii fit I should be 129lbs with a BMI of 22 which I had set as my goal, although I've no idea what I'd look like if I did get there. About 132lbs would be right in the middle of healthy weight range for my height... I just want to get under 10st as my first mini goal, but still got about 6" to lose off tummy.0 -
Good luck....0

I have kept track of my weight and fat percentage in a little note book for years and after reading your post I had a look. In the past I have been 140lbs quite a few times with varying fat percentage ranging between 26.4% and 33.3% which is a difference of nearly 10lbs of fat (percentage wise). The lower % was when I ate more protein and watched my sat fat intake and ran. The higher % was when I just ate normal healthy meals but went to the gym and had smaller portions. So instead of re-adjusting your goal completely, perhaps adjust half way between your old and new goal but change other parts of your life too like diet and exercise.
As another example, I now someone who is 200lbs but has 23% fat.0 -

I got a scale that measures body fat percentage. I take it with a grain of salt as I'm not sure 100% of the accuracy till I get it measured by my doctor in two weeks.
I do plan to adjust my target depending on continued measurements of both my weight and body fat and see if I can see myself gaining muscle as well as losing fat. Plus, I mean, we'll see when I get to 155lbs if I like the way I look or want to keep going. But my best friend is in great shape and weighs 154 so I can conceivably see myself at that weight.
As for BMI, I've seen people on here say to use it as a general guide but not focus too much on it, which is how I've decided to approach it. Mostly because right now my BMI says I'm borderline obese and I'm a size 8/10 which I don't consider obese.0
