Husband says I'm Micro-Managing...

He says I'm micro-managing my food & exercise (specifically, the weight training). Says that he just worked out, ate, didn't worry about keeping up with logging anything. I'm keeping track of nearly everything and he thinks that I'll "burn out" or get hurt doing weight training because I've begged him to get his olympic barbell from his parents house so that we can really lift weight. He wants me to use a f'ing Total Gym, dumbbells and tried to rig a bar across the floor of the attic for us to crawl up the ladder and hang from to try to learn pullups! HELP!! I'm getting so frustrated trying to do this with his attitude.
Or, am I being anal and logging too much... am I micro-managing?? I thought that was the whole point of MFP... to track things. Guess he doesn't see the need for it. He also says not to worry about leaning out because every body is different... I know every body is different, but if I can't affect change in myself, well... then I should just throw in the towel and not give a rip about anything, using his logic, right?

Men have such different ideas and opinions about food and weight loss than women do. I think your husband is probably just trying to help instill a sense of moderation in your efforts because he is worried about you. But you have to ask yourself, was "just working out, eating, and not worrying about keeping up with logging anything" working for you in the past? If not (as I suspect) then it's perfectly reasonable to try a new strategy. Thank him for looking out for you, but gently remind him that every one is different and needs a different strategy. Perhaps you could explain to him that "micro-logging" everything helps give you a sense of satisfaction and keeps you motivated.0

I have a 10 sheet spreadsheet in google docs that shows every single workout I have done, and plan to do for the next few months. It includes monthly goals, measurements (weight, inches, etc), sets/reps/weights lifted, weights I want to be lifting at the end of a 4 week cycle, cardio, the 9 weeks of Insanity I plan, rest days, everything. I can't possibly have enough info.
But, I'm driven by goals and details. I hardly think you could be micro managing too much.
Make him get the damn weights, and tell him to stop being a sally.0 -
Everybody is different but the physics of getting lean & retaining muscle mass certainly isn't!
Yes, you can lose weight & get stronger whatever without tracking cals but from what I've seen unless you have a VERY good grasp of nutrition the results are always better if tracked. You can see where you've gone wrong if you do really.
Yes, get that barbell! Don't injure yourself doing crazy make do resistance training!0 -

Ummm is it bad that I want to ask you for a copy of that. I have a few spreadsheets too.0 -
I'd tell him "if that works for you then do it, this is working for me and I'm going to stick to it!" BTW my husband tracks just as much as I do, but he didn't start out that way. He liked my results and got on the wagon with me!0

Another spreadsheeting micro-manager here.
As Tony Horton says in one of the P90X videos, "How can you know what to do if you don't know what you did?"
And +1 to jsteffen80's comment: "Make him get the damn weights, and tell him to stop being a sally."0 -
:-) Thanks everyone! I do feel better now. I mentioned the barbell again. His excuse is that his Dad might want to use it... :frown: Guess I'll be looking for one on Craigslist...
I refuse to hang from a sketchy rigged-up pull-up bar in the attic though!0
