Muscle Soreness after HIIT

So, I started High Intensity Interval Training on Sunday of this week. I made the mistake of not warming up or cooling down before the 7 minute workout, and the next day my muscles were pretty sore. I know this was a huge mistake, but I did not understand the importance of the warm-up and cool-down until after the workout. Well, I expected the soreness to gradually go away, but today it is even worse! I am very stiff after standing up and I can't help but hobble around instead of walking normally. Is there anything I can do to help my muscles recover other than drink lots of water and stretch often?

Eat more protein to help the muscles repair themselves. I stretched before AND after my HIIT workout today. I got off the bike and must have looked HILARIOUS! I felt like a prancing pony!0

I did that once... and only once! Make sure get enough protien and take your vitamins/supplementsto help your body heal. Do a nice long stretch routine and if you have a foam roller, use it. Moving around and warming up those muscles will help reduce the feeling and again, when you are warm stretch it out. Learn from this time (I know I still haven't forgotten from about 2.5 years ago) and make sure you warm up but even more important, I think, is the stretch after. If you are planning on doing HIIT on a regular basis and tend to push yourself hard I strongly suggest getting some kind of recovery drink to have after. It will really help your muscles recover and reduce that 'sore' feeling.0
