I saw this posted on Facebook:

Huge outage tomorrow of several major social networking sites to include Google+, FB, Twitter, Wikipedia and others. The outage is in protest of pending legislation called SOPA.....just a heads up folks!!

True? Will MFP be out? What is SOPA? Is this another Occupy? lol

SOPA is basically poorly written legislation. It is ostensibly for preventing piracy, but the way it would be implemented would have an adverse impact on the Internet, with some rather chilling effects.

This MFP post gives more detail.

I have no idea whether or not MFP will be participating in the blackout.

I doubt MFP will black out, they would have had a statement by now. But lots of other sites I use daily will be down.

I would be 100% behind an MFP blackout.

I would be disappointed that I couldn't log, but totally respect them if they did black out...

Yeah, this. It would be inconvenient to not be able to log for however long, but I would definitely respect MFP for doing so.

As long as they don't screw up everyone's logged in streaks. Then they would have a million pissed-off emails to respond to. lol
  • I hope MFP supports anti-SOPA sentiments, but I hope they don't black out. There are too many people who rely too much on MFP for both the tools and support towards their own personal goals of making themselves better. I would understand if they did black out, and I'd be able to manage for the day, but as soon as it comes back up, I'd be furiously trying to enter everything.

What SOPA and PIPA do is make is so that a company can make a claim that you are infringing on copyright without any proof and shut down your website without going through the court system to prove it. So basically if a company doesn't like what you are saying you can just claim they broke a copyright and have them shut down.

    Hi Folks.

We have no plans to stage an anti-SOPA black-out (as you can probably tell since we're live today).

Your ability to log your meals and interact with each other is our primary concern. A blackout would not serve you, the users.
