Raw Diet- Thoughts?

I've been thinking about doing a semi-raw diet. Not completely just yet because I know it'll be difficult. I am not much of a meat eater already and there are so many ways to get protein from nuts. I am looking into it more and more and it's becoming more interesting as I read about it and hear from others who have done it. Has anyone tried it before? I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences!

  • You know my thoughts Jullet! If it's not sustainable for life...it's not worth doing. No weird, crazy fad diets. They may work for the short term, but they are not sustainable as a lifetime change. Change how you eat, and just eat healthy. Remember, you've done the vegetarian route...how long did that last again? Exactly! Just eat healthy.

I think raw foods are a really healthy way to go (check out a couple of groups on here about it) but only if you do it in a sustainable way. Try to incorporate it into your daily diet and see how it goes. Maybe start raw food for breakfast or lunch and see how you feel, or maybe start with some delicious raw goodies in place of your normal snacks or junk food. I think adding it in - instead of trying to cut some things out - is a good way to start.

    Hope that helps!

I have done it for a short period of time (3 weeks) in the past. The problems I have had were getting tired of chewing. Honestly! And it is also difficult for me to do during the winter months - I just want something hot to warm my insides. Doing it in the summer was much easier.

I agree... after awhile I missed warm food. There are a lot of really good raw recipes out there though. And they're quite healthy... I made a chocolate mousse out of avocado and cocoa powder... I would suggest just slowly adding in some raw recipes and foods before making a complete switch. It was really hard for me to stick to... but that was me.
  • I doubt I could ever completely switch but it's a goal. I've done some researched and saw really good benefits of it not only weight and health wise but for your skin and energy too. I'll def be adding more raw foods into my diet to try it out. If it's successful I'll let everyone know! =)

Some great advice here. It is very refreshing to hear y'all talk about gradually incorporating rather than totally cutting out

I think there are lots of different ways to enjoy a healthy diet but I do worry when posters talk about doing a complete 180 with their diet of 25 years overnight. I think it's fine to make changes but slow and steady is best IMO and I love to hear the word incorporate rather than avoid.

    Good Luck OP!

i have been incorporating raw foods in to my diet lately..i been feeling better actually. it takes time to make that mental switch too. habits are hard to break and new ones are hard to form ..so if you see a benefit for yourself to go raw just keep working on it when you are going through a tough time with it . it gets more habitual as you keep those types of foods in your diet. you start wanting them as much as you used to want the processed stuff
  • I try to add a lot of Raw Food ideas to my eating and I've found 'Raw Judita' blog and twitter is really helpful - the brownies in her book are amazing!
