How do you integrate Yoga in to exercise. Is it a daily thing how many poses per day are recommended?

I've done some basic yoga at work with a co worker but when it gets busy here I cant. So i wanted to know more about it

I go to classes at the gym 3 days a week for 45 minutes each. Love yoga. If I'm feeling a little tight, I'll do some chair poses at work. Probably about 5 minutes total. If I'm feeling a little tight in the morning when I get up, I'll do maybe 10 or 15 minutes of yoga to limber up. A sun salutation in the morning takes about 90 seconds maybe. Each pose is a breath or two and I'll hold down dog for 3 or 4 breaths. I'll do a couple of them. 3 or 4 spine twists. I go through all 3 warrior poses on each side held for a couple of breaths. Triangle, one on each side, held for 3 or 4 breaths. A couple of balance poses . Tree. Dancer. Again held for 3 or 4. Then a rest in either childs pose or corpse pose. And I'm done.

I think the ideal is to practice 6 times a week, though obviously not many of us achieve that! As for number of poses, that will depend on your level of experience, ability and the type of yoga you are doing. you practice for longer as your practice develops.
  • I found a fantastic app called 'All-in Yoga' by Viaden Media LLC. I struggle to commit to classes both financially and schedule-wise so I've found this to be the perfect solution. If there isn't much time free one day, I just try to at least do a 15 minute Sun Salutation, or on a day that I've got longer, they've got longer routines that range from 40-60 minutes. I just find it easier having something else tell me which pose to do next, and how long for, without the hassle of paying loads of money at classes.

Having said that, I'd definitely recommend classes if you're new to doing yoga as it's important to lay the foundation of technique and breathing.
