Adult Figure Skating

Well, I figure skated for about 10 year competitively. I quit mid-college to work more and focus on studying.
A few years later, and 20 pounds heavier, I've returned to skating. It's really hard not being a flexible teenager anymore, and falling hurts a lot more than I remember, lol. It's rough not having the stamina like I used to, and having just a few extra pounds makes jumping pretty darn hard.
My goal is to lose 10lbs. by the end of summer, and lose 15-20 overall so that I can get back into skating shape.
Hopefully, any of you out there who have wanted to return to a sport or a hobby will find the motivation or inspiration and share your stories.

Hey,
I know your pain. I took a hiatus from skating after being a competitive skater as a kid. I got back into it seriously once I graduated college. I had the ultimate goal of passing my Senior Moves and Freestyle. When I re-started, I needed to begin with my Novice Free and Junior Moves. Well, it's been a long road, but 8 years later, I've passed my Senior moves in the Field and only have my Senior Freestyle left to take.
It is definetly MUCH harder to come back as an adult. Being able to stay in shape and skate with the time restrictions of a full time job makes it rough. I'm still working on losing a little more weight. I feel like in order to get through this 4min program, it would help if I could lose a little more weight. My goal is to pass the Senior free by the end of this year.
Keep going at the skating. It will take some work but you'll get that stamina back!!! I just started doing p90X (I'm in Week 3). This has helped a lot at getting stronger and hopefully will lead to some serious weight loss.0 -
That's really good to hear that you made so much progress as an Adult skater. Right now, I'm working on my Novice moves, and if I can get enough stamina to make it through such a long test, then I should be done by the end of summer. Once I have the moves test done, I'm going to focus on freestyle and do my Intermediate freestyle test, which should be pretty quick.
My ultimate goal is to probably pass senior freestyle, but in the mean time, I'm thinking about competing at Adult Intermediate/Novice next season.
It's great to hear from other skaters!0 -
