Hi there! While I'm not exactly new to MFP, I am getting back on track with my food and exercise log - and I thought now would be a good time to get more involved with the community aspect of this site.

At this point I'm 5 weeks into Stage 1 of the HMR weight loss program (basically a medically supervised program, beginning with protein shakes and limited veggies for 12 weeks). I'm 35, and started out with 100+ lbs to lose - my insurance company sent me an invitation to join this weight loss clinic , and I'm so glad I did!

The weight's been coming off like gangbusters, and I've been habitually walking, but now I'm ready to start stepping up the exercise, and I'm having a hard time motivating myself to get out there in the cold (I live in Michigan)! I'm ready to start the couch-to-5k workout, and have committed to running a 5k in June with some co-workers, but I'm having a heck of a time even getting started. Does anybody have any motivational tips? I'd also love to talk with some people who are also getting ready for their first 5k . . . . .

Hi there. I started training to run a 5K on Dec 22. I am currrently working through the Run Your Butt Off program from Rodale books. I am up to run 3 walk 3 x 5. It is going well. l joined a gym and just go do it first thing in the morning...treadmill is almost better than running outside as it forces you to keep a certain pace, also RYBO program insists that SLOW is the answer. I am planning 5 K in a few weeks and then 10 k in May 2012.

As for weight loss, well, I have gained 3 lbs since starting this program, not sure why. I am hoping that MFP will help with weight loss as I can log on via my iphone, and watch what I am doing.

Your program sounds good! Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely look into Run Your Butt Off - I've been pretty happy with prior attempts at c25k before (I've always ended up quitting when my life gets too busy), but it never hurts to have more information.
