i am not a big fan of almonds, but i had a few (10-12ish) yesterday with lunch. i woke up sick at 2 and 6 this morning. i didn't notice a funky taste when i ate them, but they did have a bitter aftertaste. i don't eat almonds often enough to remember if that is the 'normal' taste or if they were rancid. what is a good rule of thumb for almond freshness?

Yes!! They have natural oils on them which can go rancid. It's best to keep them in the fridge or the freezer if you aren't going to use them within a couple weeks. They should have smelled a little "off" too. I wouldn't think they would make you sick though, they just taste bad, but everyone is different and you obviously had a bad reaction to them. Sorry that happened to you, no fun being sick like that:(0
