Strength Training Question

Options
Usually when I do the strength training part of my exercise routine I do 2 sets of 10 reps of whatever weight I usually use per machine. Is it much more beneficial to do more sets with less weight?

I have been reading new rules for weightlifting (i highly recommend) and the answer to your question is lift heavy!

In very general terms, heavy lifts/few reps = more strength vs. lighter lifts/more reps = more endurance.

    Again, VERY general terms...

Don't be afraid to pack it on. Jelly arms are future strong arms!

I'm also doing New Rules of Lifting for Women, and do mostly 8-10 reps, and 2-3 sets. (Depending on the stage and week.) But the goal is to lift more weights each time you hit the gym. I've seen more results and definition in the last few weeks by lifting heavy than I ever did with lighter weights and more reps.

To lean out or tone use light weight with high reps. To build muscle use heavy and low reps.. of course to build mass its hard and requires more than just lifting heavy, youd have to eat.
    whats your goal?
