Can people share their healthy recipes that have 5 to 6 ingredients or less. Im on a BIG BUDGET and need healthy meals that are cheap! Plus I am REALLY tired of all these healthy dishes that have ingrediants that I would never use. Is there anyone out there like me>>I HATE seafood, many veggies EXCEPT corn, asparagus, green beans and carrots ONLY as long as they dont really taste like them but then that cuts out the HEALTHY part of my eating b/c have to add some flavor and thats usually fattening or high in calories. I LOVE meat but am very tired of chicken but can still eat it and am running out of recipes. Plus chicken breasts can get expensive and I do like other parts of chicken ie: legs drumstick thighs. My list of dont likes is HUGE. Many of the diets I try liek south beach, weight watcher ect have things like Portabella Spinach mushroom quiche--YUCK! Im a very plain girl when it comes to my food and I dont like all these fancy twists on regular foods. IS there anyone there like me??? I think b/c of my hate of foods I will never lose weight!

McCormick Grill Mates (seasonings you can buy in a little package) are a great way to may easy, good-tasting meats for meals. You can add them to chicken to make chicken a little tastier.

Do you eat pork? Pork chops or pork tenderloin are a nice alternative to meat. I can usally get them on sale for $3.99 a pound.

Also ground turkey. You can make tacos or meatballs. Le Fe makes a nice fat free flour tortilla that has less than 100 calories per serving.

my boyfriend is a very picky eater, but will still eat healthy.

have you tried all the foods that you say you hate?
there is much variety out there of every kind of food, and if you just open up your mind, they really aren't that bad. you have conditioned yourself to like junky food.

do you like sweet potatos? make sweet potato french fries
salads? make salads with your chickens
nuts? add nuts to your meals instead of some other high calorie substitute
rice? rice, even uncle bens chicken fried rice is pretty low cal, it is yummy
you can make a potato salad with lemon juice, hard boiled potatos and green beans and celery
    eat cereals
fruits? there are too many fruits out there for you to hate all of them. make a fruit salad.
eggs? eggs for breakfast, egg salad for lunch, egg in green salads
tomatos? i put them in everything. i can have tomatos cut up with lemon juice all on its own with some pepper...it is awesome

sweet tooth? one popsicle is like 65 calories for a nice low cal snack

open your mind up to food and get creative, it doesnt all taste bad
  • I like to do a healthy Shephard's Pie....Very lean ground beef/chicken or turkey seasoned and browned then layer in casserole dish, corn, carrots, green beans (adds volume) then meat, you can use mashed potatoes (or instant) on top. Or for extra healthy and you wont know the difference try mashed cauliflower on top. sprinkle lightly with reduced fat cheese, Bake @ 350 until bubbly. YUMMY!:smile: :drinker:
  • I eat alot of the double fiber whole grain bread and almond butter or natural peanut butter sandwiches..its cheap and filling with the fiber and protein.

Hi, there...I've been here since Feb and have lost some weight. The first week I just log everything on my food diary and same to exercises. After first week I began cutting down amounts of what I had for meals. See, I don't like a lot of those food that are the diet"magic".Since I've bee here, I do my own way to lose weight at my own rate. And it works.I began eating by measure cups. And going less.Right now, I eat everything I like but I measure by 1/2 cup only(potatoes, rice, pasta.)If it is taco, I eat two with one tbs of meat, tomato, lettuce, and 1/2 tsp sour cream, refried beans. If it is pizza, I make it of pita bread(instead of pizza crust) with everything I like.Taste delicious.Try it.any question, let me know.
  • Have you tried e-mealz.com? For $15 every three months, this program will create a weekly DINNER menu (all recipes, side dishes, desserts, and shopping lists) for you. Everything you need for 5 complete dinners for 1-2 people ($40 to $50) or 7 complete dinners for 4-6 people for a price of $70-$80. I am on an extreme budget here. My husband was laid off in February. And e-mealz has saved me time, money and the aggravation of figuring out what to cook for supper. They have several diets to choose from: Points (weight watchers), Diabetic (i'm pretty sure), and Low Fat. We use the low fat. The menus have a disclaimer that states something like "this isn't a weight loss plan, etc" but when I enter the recipes into a recipe calculator, it's all low fat/low cal. You may need to tweak the desserts for less sugar, but not always.

Anyway, it's e-mealz..com and endorsed by Dave Ramsay.

    Hope this helps.

You are not alone - I'm very much like you. I have several food allergies so I do understand what you are dealing with (for me, no milk products, no eggs, no wheat & my thyroid hates certain veggies). What I learned when I did body building & then personal training days was that I will eat the same fruits/veggies, etc. over and over because that is what food I like. So, just rotate the things you like. Such as, strawberries M, W, F and peached T & Thurs. Sat @ Sun you get cantelope. Regarding meat -- I hate meat but have learned to eat chicken, turkey, and some fish. Again, rotate it. I still buy protien powder & protien bars -- if you do this -- read the labels carefully. About veggies -- the dark greens is what you want to eat. You need the veggies to flush the food from your system. Learn to use herbs for flavor. It's only food -- there are better things in the world. Your body only knows protien, carbs & fat so don't bother giving it a fancy treat unless it's your birthday. Good luck!

    I am exactly like you.

In fact - the veggies you listed are the only ones I eat too. And I usually use olive oil and garlic to season them - very very plain girl as well.

I found a great (cheap) book a few weeks ago with the perfect balance of healthy, quick, cheap and easy meals. It is called "The Healthy College Cookbook". I know it sort of sounds silly (especially since I have been out of college for almost five years now) but it is genius! Some of the recipes can be done in the microwave!

Anyway - they do have some gross portabella ones but for every one I ignore I find ten that are amazing! And they are for all meals/snacks and have the break down of calories, fat, protein, fiber, serving sizes etc etc...all around great kitchen tool. : )
