I was just curious if I am eating too much for breakfast every morning or if my breakfast choices seem ok.

*3 cups spinach cooked
*1 cup broccoli sprouts
*4 egg whites
*1 slice swiss cheese
*1/2 cup garlic chopped and sauteed
*3-5 small cherry tomatoes (not every morning)
*1 handful blackberries (not every morning)
*1 packet of instant weight control oatmeal
(I use Extra virgin light olive oil and some canola oil spray for the pan)

I also watched a video that explained the correct items to use for cooking. The woman said extra virgin olive oil and sprays were not ok and to use real butter. Is that true? If so, what type of butter?

thanks!

I have always heard you shouldnt use butter, but use olive oil. I buy olive oil in a spray form at Walmart when I cook. Hope this helps.

Sounds good.. Dont forget breakfast is the most important meal of the day, to get you going.. As long as you are accounting for your calories... But sounds good.. I dont use butter when cooking such as pan frying, cause it adds the extra calories, thats why they say when you go to restaruants request that you veggies, steak, etc not to be prepared with butter... Sounds like a good breakfast..

Olive oil and butter have different benefits, and are used for different things.

Extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) is expensive, and has a delicate flavour....which is lost when you heat it. So there's no point using it for frying or sauteeing. I use canola or rice bran oil for that, sometimes butter. Butter is a staurated fat, so you want to limit your intake of it. But a little is fine. Some people use a mixture of butter and oil when frying, to stop the butter from burning.
  • I'm guessing you don't have a problem with Vampires?
    That's a lot of garlic.
    But sounds really healthy!

I have not used butter in years, only oil and spray. I bought Promise butter yesterday and only used a tiny bit but I have a feeling I will have a hard time making myself use butter!

I think it all depends on your calorie level. I have a high cal level bc I have a LONG way to go. If that works in your tracker, then it's prob. just fine. Like another said, b'fast in very important. Good luck on your journey.

It's calories in, calories out, so however you want those calories to fit in is fine.

I tend to eat most of my calories in the evening, so it's whatever works for you.

Not sure what to say on the olive oil vs. butter. They're both natural fats that have been around forever, so my opinion would be that it's your preference.

I have actually eaten the breakfast listed above for the past 3-4 years. I have always used olive oil and it has worked for me. I just recently heard to use butter so that is why I asked. It sounded odd but who knows! I have also been lifting for years now so I believe I have to eat a huge breakfast.
  • There must have been a reason that you asked, if you are feeling uncomfortable with your choices than you will know you are uncomfortable. I am 350lbs and I eat about 450 calories in the morning, and 2200 for the day,

I think you have to eat to where you feel comfortable, if you eat your breakfast are you still hungry when your done, or do you find it filling.

it sounds healthy, but you already know if you feel you need to cut down.

As a general rule, aim for 20% of your daily calories for breakfast.

The jury is still out on butter, but I prefer smart balance spread. Much better for you and has Omega-3s IMHO. I think the breakfast is fine. We all have different metabolisms so what works for some people won't work for others. I don't think there is any hard and fast rule. I follow the "eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper" rule, because if I eat later in the evening the pounds start to creep up. Not everyone has this problem.

You just need to find out what works for you. :-)

I thought your breakfast choices sounded great!

I also use that rule..hence the big breakfast :) I eat about 4-5 times a day.

I actually just joined this website and am overwhelmed with all of the information I have seen and so quickly. It is awesome!
