    Fish

I get this from a lot of people, but for heaven's sake FISH is not vegan and not even vegetarian as a matter of fact.:noway:
  • Depends on what you like.

    Tofu
    Soy
    Tempeh
    seitan
    vital wheat gluten
    beans
    oatmeal
    some bagels
    peanut butter
    potatoes
    spinach

I used to be on a vegetarian/vegan diet for 6 years.

if you're going to be true vegan and healthy.. theres some research you need to do.

look up Complete vs incomplete proteins... you will need to find complimentary foods to eat that combined will give you complete protein.

then again, you could just eat your "no" list, as they're all natural sources of complete protein.

Hey Buddy..this is a hugely interesting thread for me, as I am a vegetarian ( not vegan ) with a pitiful protein intake, avoid nuts because of the fat content.

Red kidney beans/garbanzo beans/black beans seem to be the big hitters for me.

Spinach has loads of protein for a vegetable. What the others have said, quinoa, soya (soy milk has masses of protein), pulses, mushrooms, multi seed bagels have about 9g protein each.

I am not trying to be either vegan or vegetarian, i just figured people who were would have the best advice. I just want to reduce the levels of meat i eat. i already consume a good amount of nuts and dairy, so I was looking for options I dont already eat.

    Thanks

The protein combining theory originates from "Diet for a Small Planet" by Frances Moore Lappe, and was recanted decades ago. There is no such thing as an incomplete protein, even though it is still widely referred to. All plant sources contain all of the essential amino acids, then as long as you are eating enough calories, and not limiting yourself to fruit or cassava, you will be eating enough protein. Even if all you are eating is potatoes. Remember that all plant sources contain protein, not just beans and nuts.

I eschew all of those thing. I get my protein from legumes, rice, almond milk, soy, etc. I don't buy the fact that 30% of your calories (or more!) have to come from protein. Nonsense I say! :noway:
