Loosing weight to acheive a future healthy pregnancy?

Are there any women out there like myself who's main weight loss goal is based around a future healthy pregnancy? My husband and I would like to try to conceive this year but I am not comfortable carrying additional pregnancy pounds at my current weight. Can anyone else relate?

I'm in the exact same boat! I'm 5 foot 5 and 157lbs, I want to be around 135 before I try to conceive (hopefully this year).0

I can definitely relate. While we will probably not start trying to concieve for 2 to 3 years, I have over 100 pounds to lose so I need to start improving my health now.0

That is an amazing way to go about it actually. So many people feel that it's okay to gain a whole bunch of weight during pregnancy not understanding the stress it causes on not only your body, but you baby. Some doctors even tell you to pack on the pounds, which I'll never understand. Best of luck to you! :happy:0

Yes! This is my motivation also. Well that and the fact that I am uncomfortable with my current weight and I know pregnancy will only make it worse! So, my goal is to lose about 15 pounds and get in the best shape I can before I get pregnant. We won't start trying until closer to fall but it just might take me that long to get to where I want to be. I feel I owe it to myself and the baby to be the healthiest I can be. Plus if I am in shape before pregnancy it will be that much easier to lose the weight afterwards...hopefully! Best of luck!0

That's my motivation, too. I didn't want to lose weight until I decided that there was no way I was putting the life of someone I loved into a body as rubbish as mine. I've got three or four years until I plan to start a family, but I've taken over a year so far so I know this will be slow!0

I think it's great of you to adapt a healthy lifestyle before pregnancy and then continue it...wish I would have done that. I have two young children and was overweight before pregnancy, then adding an additional 30lbs it was HARD on my body. We hope to have one more children, but are waiting until I'm at or close to my goal weight so I can enjoy a more healthy and active pregnancy (God willing).0

I just realized I spelled "losing" as "loosing" in the subject line. ACK! My biggest pet peeve. My apologies.
Great to hear from all you ladies!0 -
I am doing this. I had a family member ask me " why would you lose weight and THEN get pregnant, shouldn't it be the other way around?" Not if the weight you are at is a health risk!0
