Hey Buddy..this is a hugely interesting thread for me, as I am a vegetarian ( not vegan ) with a pitiful protein intake, avoid nuts because of the fat content.
Red kidney beans/garbanzo beans/black beans seem to be the big hitters for me.
i always thought nuts were good fat?
And you would be correct. Nuts are high in mono and polyunsaturated fats.0 -
hummus...jallepino hummus yummmm0

Nuts are good fats. Eat them! They are great for you. Just be moderate, like everything else. Fat does not make you fat.. eating too much makes you fat.0 -
if you're going to be true vegan and healthy.. theres some research you need to do.
look up Complete vs incomplete proteins... you will need to find complimentary foods to eat that combined will give you complete protein.
then again, you could just eat your "no" list, as they're all natural sources of complete protein.
Um, no. the concept of "complete" vs "incomplete" proteins was thrown out decades ago.
The fact is, nearly every food contains some protein. Peaches contain protein. By varying the diet over the course of a few days, our bodies will gather up what they need for the task at hand... so, eat some grain, eat some legumes, eat fruit, eat veggies, and try not to get too freaked out on balancing it all perfectly.0 -

For true vegan, beans were a good suggestion. Be sure to add some rice or you will not have a complete protein. There are other combinations that are just as viable and you will find lots of combining charts and information on the internet. Most vegetable proteins are "incomplete" in that they are missing one or more of the essential amino acids. Combining takes care of that.0

If you are in a major metro area, you can maybe get bread from French Meadow Bakery - it's often in the freezer section at Whole Foods. They make the first sprouted-wheat bread that I have ever had and actually enjoy, and it has 5 grams of protein (and other good things) in each slice.0

Kale, spinach?0

I'm vegan, and I meet my protein goals every day. I make tofu scrambles for breakfast, and incorporate faux-meat into almost every meal. Seitan is good, as are Gardein products. Beans, lentils and quinoa are great too!0
-
Anyone have any good protein sources that are not meat nuts or dairy?....im looking at you vegans
Thanks!
Tofu all the way! there are a variety of products you can get, different types of dishes...try em out.
I love the veggie burgers by Yves, yum yum yum0 -
Paul McCartney is a vegetarian. Love the Beatles :drinker:0

why are you people vegan's?? it is so bad for your body!
That is the biggest lie in the world -__-0 -
ok- this is why I rarely post on boards. Someone came on here looking for advice, and someone else is saying that a lifestyle choice that we, as vegans, have made is "bad." Maybe some did it for health reasons, maybe some for moral. Whatever the case, knocking someone else for the way they choose to live is bull****. No vegans are on this thread pointing the finger at meat-eaters for their dietary choices.
Seriously, if you have nothing nice to say, just go away.0 -
Why do we bag people because of what they do/don't eat? Each to their own
Secondly, I don't give a **** what celebs eat. Love Elvis, not going to eat fried PB and Banana Sangas0 -

I am not a vegan but I do know that just because a celebrity does something doesn't make it any healthier or better for you. I am all for the people that do a vegan lifestyle, they are a lot healthier and stronger willed then I am but don't make it sound like they are better because all the people that are well known doing it please0 -
One cup of cooked lentils has 18g of protein, very low in fat too.0
-
I'm all for veganism, I wish I could do that diet...but I can't stand when people list celebrities who do something or believe something as good reasoning to do it or use them in an argument for something. Ugh sorry pet peeve.
Anyway tofu, beans, BULGAR WHEAT (my fave), soy, vegan protein powder. I always like tofu scrambles too, so much you can do with that.0 -
No vegans are on this thread pointing the finger at meat-eaters for their dietary choices.
If only this could be true of many other threads!0 -
we eat a lot of beans, tofu, lentils, quinoa, eggs in my house. also, protein powder.0

umm, the concept is still true.
theres more then one amino acid that is under the umbrella term "protein". Your body needs all of them. Notice i didnt say "you need to eat all of them at once or you'll die!!" or anything stupid like that.
you just said the same thing i just said. you need to eat a variety of sources of protein over time to maintain a healthy body.
theres alot to the entire body chemistry, and im not going to write a 3page article for one person to learn about protein when there are better more complete articles out there. Im just saying a good subject to research. Alot of people, especially ones moving to a veggie/vegan lifestyle arnt aware of the issue, and its something they should know. especially if they're veggie/vegan on a restricted calorie diet.0 -

Irrational thinking. The list of non vegetarian celebs would take up 1000's of pages, and the ones that thought vegan was the wrong choice, you could still fill 100's of pages.........0 -

Taking dietary advice from the majority of celebrities is pretty ill-advised regardless of whether they consume meat.
So I find this list a bit laughable, to be honest.0 -
Sure its allready been said but too lazy to read thru Greek Yogurk, Muscle Milk. Or just plain old Protein Powder0
