Twisted Knee

Options
I took a Zumba class on Thursday night and I twisted my knee. I have been icing and stretching it all weekend. I went swimming last night and it felt better but I have not done any exercises and/or Zumba classes. It is killing me!! It is really feeling 80% better but I don't want to chance it. Is there anything else I can be doing to help the process?

I have zumba certification in 26 days and a beach vacation in 16.5 days!!!

Help!!

The best thing is NOT to to re-injure! You will need to stay off your knee if you want the make that certification! Do you swim? that is the best low-impact was to exercise the area and still have resistance on your muscles (even if it is minor).

    Good luck!

After 24 hours you should no longer ice the injury. You don't want to restrict blood flow and decrease the ability for it to heal. If it is still swollen, I would suggest having it looked at. I have done some terrible things with my knees and you want the right treatment for them to heal.

    Hope you feel better soon.:flowerforyou:

Is the pain greater now than when the incident occurred? Did you hear any clicking, snapping or popping sounds when the incident occurred? Is there still a lot of inflammation in or around the knee? Does it hurt to squat or when you flex your knee? Is the joint locking up? Since it's been 5 days since the incident and because you are still feeling pain I highly recommend having it checked by an Orthopedic Specialist to rule out any possible ACL, MCL, PCL, LCL or meniscus injuries. Please avoid stretching until you are checked as it can cause further damage to any possible tendon or ligament tears.

Thank you for your replies. I actually have no swelling, little to no pain. So I am not sure if I just twisted wrong or what. I am still taking it easy and I have been swimming! I love to swim so I figured that would be good for me.

I never heard any popping or clicking...just pain. Like I mentioned...the swelling has gone away and the pain has subsided. I am just taking it easy!

    Thank you!!

So glad to hear you are recovering nicely from your injury. As an FYI, if certain movements cause the pain or swellowing to reoccur, please have it checked. Sudden swallowing and pain with a mensicus tear will subside with proper care but the tear in the mensicus can only be repaired via surgery. When in doubt, play it safe. Good Luck with your Zumba Certification! Go get them girl!
