Could my plateau be from stress?

Let me start by saying that I am not technically on a plateau, meaning that my weight has fluctuated, but since Thanksgiving I have only maintained around the same weight. It was around that time that I decided to purchase a home. Since then, as one can imagine, various things have gone wrong, and my stress levels have been higher than normal. With regard to the weight loss, I have tried increasing my cardio, decreasing my cardio, increasing strength training, raising my calories, and lowering my calories. Ultimately, nothing has really helped me push through this barrier and I'm only 15 to 20 lbs away from lowering my BMI to just overweight. I am incredibly frustrated. Could the stress of my personal life keep me from being successful in my weight loss? If so, what can I do about it?
