Bernard Cornwell - The Warlord Series - Three books about King Arthur.

Mary Doria Russell - The Sparrow and Children of God - Kinda religious, but guaranteed to freak you out

Naomi Novik - Temeraire series - 6 or 7 books about dragons fighting the Napoleonic war

Peter F Hamilton - Pandora's Star, Judas Unchained, The Void Trilogy. - All five are set in the same "futuristic universe"

Piers Anthony - Any Xanth novel, they are full of jokes and puns.

Those are just some of my favorites.

    Oh, too many good ones!

I loved all the Harry Potter books and am almost done with the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series.

Consider also: Wicked, Marathon (the Hal Higdon NOVEL) Atlas Shrugged, Self Made Man by Norah Vincent, Zen and the Art of Running (L. Shapiro), The Book Thief, Infadel (Hirsi), Mans Search for Meaning (Frankel), Demon Haunted World (Sagan),11/22/63 (King), A Walk in the Woods (Bryson), The Lovely Bones... I could go on!

I really enjoyed Game of Thrones.... until about the fourth or fifth book, when it completely lost my interest.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. One of the best books I have ever read but I warn you it is brutal!
  • Thanks for the suggestions - will check some out when I go to the bookstore...
