how far to walk?

hi
am wondering how far and how fast i should walk to get the weight off? i have a bit of a dodgy hip due to arthritis so it gets sore quite quickly, but i'm determined to slim down.

    walk at a reasonable pace and build it up gradual. I started with about 30 mins 5 times a week now I try to do 50 mins sometimes more. yoga is good when sailing and pilates both do-albe onboard. Build up gradual 2 short walks a day will not tire you but if you can get your heart rate up a bit that will do you a lot of good

    have tried to do yoga etc but due to limited movement in hip i find it too difficult., walking better option.
