Tired of being the fat girl of the house.

I know some of you have roommates and live-in partners who aren't on the same diet as you. So my question is...how do you cope with all of the snacks and foods around the house?

I have absolutely no support in the house because my boyfriend and two other roommates are all rail thin and have never had to worry about their weight, so they eat whatever they want. In fact, two of my roommates (my boyfriend and his brother) are trying to gain weight, so there's always a bunch of yummy high calorie food around.

Like cheese. And red meat. And potato chips. Not to mention all of the fast food or take-out that's being brought home.

So I guess the help I need is....how do you guys resist temptation and stay on track? Especially when nobody around you understands your diet?

Feels like trying to quit smoking in a house full of cigarettes.

I have 5 kids 4 of which are boys. They eat like animals for lack of a better word. I of course keep healthy options in the house but lets be honest kids still like to have yummy snacks too. The answer is simple you just have to say no you have to just walk away. I have to buy the crap and I still have to walk away. I sometimes just have to pretend it isn't even there. It's just not easy ever is it?

I feel your pain. My dad likes his biscuits, chocolates, crisps and snacks so they are almost always in the house. I just have to think when I see him eating it how disgusting all the fat is in them and the damange it does. Also, it does help to have healthy things around, or even things that are semi-healthy but feel like a bit of a treat eg. flavoured rice cakes like Snack A Jacks which almost feel like crisps when you're eating them.

I just keep looking for new food options on the web to keep me interested enough to say no to the food I shouldn't be eating. I also keep my food just as well stocked as my boyfriends junk snacks. Example: He eats and ice cream sandwich and I have a skinny cow ice cream sandwich. He has a hamburger and I have a morning star spicy black bean veggie burger. I plan what I will get at a fast food joint he wants to go to before we go so I know what my best low cal/ fat options are. I hope this helps. Best of luck! You can dooooo iiiitttt!

Buy your own healthy food and stay full from it! If you can't resist the temptation make sure you work it into your calorie goal :) It will get easier to resist those foods in time.

If you are diligent about your calorie intake look up the item you are thinking of eating before you eat it. I find that normally derails my desire to eat it. I found two of my favorite’s food weren't worth it while trying to stay under 1200 calories. 1 small bag of Cheetoos 360 calories, 1 m&m 11 calories... BUT, if I really want the food, I budget for it.

    Good luck

I just remind myself that I have to track it, and it makes me decide it's not worth eating. Laziness = eating success!!

I live in at my boyfriends parents home. They are NOT happy about my diet choices. They get offended (like the other night) when I turn down a meal for something else (like the huge breakfast platter they made for everybody with hashbrowns, bacon and sausage smothered in cheesy eggs). I seriously carry around a box of my own food wherever I go. There are candy bars, ice cream, cake, donuts, etc ALL THE TIME.

Just have to learn self-control, and learn you can have something like that in moderation (very rarely in my case!).

Yeah, my boyfriend's parents invite us over to eat or out to eat like twice a week, and get kind of weird when I don't eat much, or choose to opt out of one of the things (like mashed potatoes). When I explain that I'm on a diet they sort of look at me funny. It sucks.

Thanks everyone for the ideas. I've been having a lot of trouble staying under the 1,200 calories a day diet. It was really easy when I lived with my parents because they never had any food that I liked anyway. But here....not so much.
