Hi there,
I'm not new to fitness or 'dieting'. I'm turning 50 in March, married with a 19 yr old son and a golden retriever dog. I'm new to fitness pal. What I find the hardest is not having processed sugar. I am sugar sensitive so it causes all sorts of problems for me. Mood swings, stomach bloat, weight gain and excessive cravings. I want to be done with processed sugar, but it's always the struggle.
As I near my 50th birthday, my goal is to wittle my middle down. I know what I need to do and if I follow my idol (Tosca Reno) Eat Clean concept, I know I can achieve my goals.

You can find lots of sugar free alternatives on Amazon...chocolate, jolly ranchers, etc. I'm not a diabetic, but I take precautions and try to avoid it when I can because I like being healthy. I'll probably die of a horrible brain aneurism, but I won't be fat.0

Hi there! Sugar is also my enemy as well as anything else processed and most fruits. Even sugar things no matter how natural like honey, organic sugars, Agave and maple syrup. I am 30 and have struggled with Chronic Candida for 11 years already. It got out of control over the last 2 years and now I am working hard at my diet to get it under control again. I too, need to wittle my middle. I just joined MFP a couple days ago to also help me watch calories and such. My cousin introduced me to it. I would like to lose 55 lbs. That would put me at a healthy weight which is where I was before getting married and having 3 babies. I wish you all the best with your journey. I'm a holistic nutritionist, so I am not looking for sugar replacements as I don't believe they are health supporting. Even dried fruit sends me into a binge. I think my body doesn't accept sugar well and wrecks havoc on my mental and physical well being. Maple syrup is okay as are fruits that are higher in fibre like apples and pears. Bananas, only 1/4 at a time in a protein shake to minimize the increase in blood sugar.
SaraAnn - have you sought the advice of a nutritionist on getting your candida under control?
Toho....lol I will probably die of mental breakdown over continually trying to be thin. My mother was obese and died of diabetes at age 59, so I've made it my mission since the age of 11 yrs to NEVER be fat. I didn't always do the right things. Now I do.

Sugar is my enemy as well. I removed dairy from our diet over the summer and swtiched us to almond milk, only one of the kids has protested. But he is also the one that once I took milk away, lost 10 lbs and the swelling in his body has gone down. I'm slowly working on gluten and sugar. Those for me are the 2 hardest.
I did very well this week, however, last night we ordered pizza and as my mind said don't eat that you'll regret it. I did not feel like making something for myself. I ate the blasted pizza and I have a terrible stomach ache today paying for it.
I love Tosca Reno's books. It is hard being a wife and mom of 3 boys to spend the extra or to seek out certain ingredients. However, I am learning to substitute and add in more veggies. I've started adding veggies to their lunches and for that matter packing their lunch 4 days a week and only letting them eat at school once a week (as a treat but also because they are given a tray with the main food and then they have to go to the options bar for their fruit and veggies and usually do not take anything so by the time they get home they are beyond starving). They get to take a snack but I was mortified on Thursday to learn that my son's teacher (she's a sub in for his regular teacher who is on maternity leave) told him that he brought to many snacks, he brought 2 clemintine's and 6 mini rice cakes. She told him he could only have one.
It's not going to be an easy journey, but I also know that I am strong enough to do it!

Wyndesnow....we have the power within ourselves to change ourselves, our thinking and the lives of our families. I think you are going a great thing. I'm don't like milk, but I like almond milk and use it in a few things I make. I so know the feeling of 'not feeling well' after eating something. For me it's sugar. White stuff in general bloats me something terrible.
