I usually just let it cook all day while I'm at work and it's really tender when I get home.

I cook a split chicken breast on high for 3.5 hours. Id imagine if it was a whole chicken that it would take a bit longer. Sorry Im no help lol
  • I noticed crock pots vary, like microwaves. The newer versions cook faster. If I put frozen bone-in chicken in I cook it on high for about 7 hours. The new crockpots come with great recipe books.

You can almost cook anything in a crock pot for 6-8 hours without overcooking. Make sure you have in enough water or broth initially so it doesn't dry out before the juices from the chicken start coming out. I would cook it at least 6 hours with veggies in with it. I put stuff in my crock pot at 6 AM and don't pull it out until 6 PM cooking on low. Dinners are simple and ready for a hectic family. If you need good recipes then I suggest the cooking Light cookbooks that have all of the nutritional information listed!

4-6 hours if on high, or 8 on low

My crockpot is 7 years old. I put in a whole chicken and it cooks in about 5 hours (not frozen). It literally falls off the bones at that point.

We do this a lot. 4 hours on high, 8 hours on low. DO NOT ADD ANY LIQUID! It will toughen the meat. Put it in breast side down, sprinkle your favorite seasonings on, put on the lid and let it sit. When the meat starts falling off the bones, it's done. Take it out, skin it, serve slices for dinner. Then shred the rest to use for chicken tacos, chicken/biscuit roll ups, chicken flatbread sandwiches, or anything else you like shredded chicken for.

Biscuit Roll Ups - More with Less cookbook's basic biscuit dough with oil instead of butter, and 100% whole wheat flour.
Shred chicken, chopped celery, portabellas, shredded cabbage, shredded carrots, tomatoes or any other vegetables you like. Spread the biscuit dough out thin in one sheet, spread the chicken and veggies out in a thin layer to cover, sprinkle on cheese if you like, and roll like a jelly roll. Slice like cinnamon rolls, lay flat on a cookie sheet and bake at 375 for 30 minutes. Serve with savory mustard. Approx. 135 cals a roll, and two rolls are quite filling!

I am informed that there is a CrockPotGirls site on facebook that has lots of great crock pot recipes, with a new recipe each day that is both cheap and easy. In our house we do lots of 'this looks like a good idea' cooking rather than using recipes.

When I use boneless chicken breasts I cook them for no more than 6 hours. Really it's done in about 4-5 hours. This is on low. Any longer than 6 and it becomes dry and stringy. Bone in chicken will require a longer cooking time.
  • I cooked a whole chicken the other day. I left it on low for 10 hours.
