I need a boost after Christmas as at the moment I’m STILL eating everything in sight and finding it hard to control my diet…..really struggling, I bought some slimfast shakes before I started this and was thinking about just doing this for 5 days to see if it would give me a boost and with being busy easy to do.

Any advice, info. or tips really appreciate it….as I’ve just lost all my willpower and craving carbs so badly

I drink atkins shakes. I have been for over a year. I have one for breakfast and one for lunch with some veggies. They taste great and arent bad at all. Ive compared them to a lot of shakes out there and they are by far the best. The mocha flavor is my favorite, it has 160 calories 15g of sugar 2 net carbs. Give them a try!

I also drink zoic shakes, But I think they are only available in florida. They sell them at big lots, walgreens, publix and winndixie if you have any of these. They dont taste that great but they are mind over matter for me. Theyve helped me in losing 80+ pounds. I try to chug them and then follow it up with something else after. They only have 90 calories. Both the atkins and zoic shakes taste better to me than any protein powder I have tried.
  • I drink special k protein shakes for breakfast and lunch. 10g of protein, 5 grams of fiber and they taste sooo good. I've lost 35lbs by replacing my breakfast and lunch with them, I do eat toast or apple with lunch also.

I recently started drinking "pure protein shakes" for increase my calorie intake. It's not bad and it's only 100 calories.

I did slim fast to kick start me aswell awhile back... I had a shake for breaky and lunch and a reasonable supper... I snacked on veggies durning the day sometimes i had a cheese string or yogurt aswell..
I found it helped me alot...

I also sometimes mixed them with fruit in the mornings
  • Hi tried slim fast 2 times and i lost weight but eventually my appetite increased and the meal replacement shakes wouldnt hold me for 5 hours as it's suppose to. Then i found out that it dosent work for longterm or for everyone because it can actually be used to help you gain weight, as i was told by my doctor. my sister just told me about the atkins shakes, i may try those Hope this was helpful

I am currently doing 2 protein shake and 1 meal a day... I started with slimfast, but I wanted to cut down on sugar so moved on to protein shake, with water, or almond milk or soy milk. On the morning that I work out, I will eat oat meal with my shake. Any time I am hungry, I try to eat handful of peanut, or cheese sticks or celery with tbspn of fat free ranch, or fruit. Sometimes I eat my meal at lunch instead of dinner, depending how hungry I am.
  • Im no expert, but I'd avoid slimfast shakes because they're full of sugar and just stimulate your appetite. I have no issues with the idea of meal replacement (doing it myself at the mo, and done it in the past) I use exante but you have to buy those online in bulk, whereas atkins you can get in a supermarket. (I've never tried atikins btw - have done celebrity slim and couldnt stick to that - again I think their shakes are too sugary)
  • Thanks everyone, I tried just cutting out carbs and doing high protein and worked but felt awful, after Christmas I STILL can’t get back into this and keep eating virtually everything in sight!!!! Wrok etc is busy so I don’t get chance to cook so need something I can have quickly…..
I’m definitely going to give them ago tomorrow as already have the shake, fingers crossed!!

How did the Slimfast work for you? I just drank my first shake this morning and I plan on doing it for a week- replacing breakfast and lunch. I lost 26 lbs and am stuck in a plateau so I am hoping it will jump start my weight loss again!

There is alot of sodium in those slimfast shakes. You are probably better off making your own whey protein shakes.

I got some but was starving second day and ended up having lunch and dinner (though I had one breakfast) ..I can't imagine sticking to 2 weeks but I didn't know could have fruit or carrot sticks or something with it, as I just felt deprived cos. hadn't eaten. Think I'd rather be able to eat and use fat burners to burn the extra calories off, otherwise I just end up bingeing then using laxatives to get rid of all the food before next weigh-in.

For me it was about educating myself about healthy eating. Everyone I know that has tried to lose with weight loss drinks has gained it all back as soon as they stop the shakes.

I incorporate them as a breakfast option - i don't do the one for breakfast and one for lunch thing.

I have, and I tolerate the taste.
    It's nothing special.
I just use these supplements when I need something fast and don't have time for whole foods.

I like the Slimfast powder (Meijers version) but I was recording my sugar intake & found that one shake killed my allotment for sugar in one drink! So I don't do them too often now. I may try again just to get my hiney in gear though. I'm still struggling after the holidays as well. Good luck!
  • I did Slimfast for about a month once and lost a stone, that was with doing an hour of wii fit in the morning, walking 4 miles every day to work and then walking around/being on my feet for 9 hours a day 5 days a week. The shakes are quite nice, especially the vanilla and cafe latte ones. But you do get bored, or at least I did, and I found it really difficult to drink the shakes for lunch while I was in work as I was so ashamed that I was doing it that I didn't want anyone to know. I think it'd be quite good for a kick start, especially if you then move on to something more sustainable :)

I have them for breakfast. Its quick , easy, and does control my hunger for 4-5 hours. I drink lots and lots of water also. Make sure you are doing the recommended plan for slimfast. Shake at breakfast and lunch, a sensible dinner..and 100 calorie snacks (1 or 2) a day. It works and is awesome for getting your vitamins
  • I have tried them a few times but I always get the same result initially I lose and then I put the weight back on again :(

Also I don't always find them filling enough and then end up eating a meal as well as having slimfast which kind of defeats the object!

I have found they are more filling if you mix them with a handful of oats :)

I think a healthier option is a sugar free homemade oats and almond milk smoothie - you can pick up oats and almond milk in health food stores or large supermarkets

    Hope this helps

    Best

i was on the Slimfast plan for 10 weeks in january 2011 - middle of march. And i lost a total of 1stone 7lbs! It really worked for me and the weight has stayed off since i finished, and ive lost 3 stone as of today's date! To get the benefits from it, you HAVE to stick to plan that is printed on the back of the Milkshake powder tin! 2 milkshakes (250cals), 3 healthy snacks (under 100cals each), 600 calorie meal, 8 glasses of water a day and most importantly lots of excercise!

trust me, it works! you just have to stick to it and you will soon seen a difference after a short period of time.

hope this helped + good luck x

I like to make a "Green" Shake in the morning and we have been using the protein shakes from Costco for lunch.

    A basic green shake:

    Spinach
    Broccoli
Protein powder (We currently use rice, but I think that adds an odd flavor)
    Water
    Almond Milk
    Frozen fruit medley

I use slim fast shakes and meal bars but I don't do the slim fast plan. I use them for when I'm in a hurry in the morning or take a meal bar with me if I'm going to be out shopping so I don't end up at a fast food place. I did the actual plan before and lost 20 lbs in two months but then I plateaued and stopped losing weight. Then when I started eating normal food again I gained it all back.

I drink the SlimFast High Protein chocolate shake for just breakfast - they are easy and quick for me, which I need while I am getting three kids out the door! I like the HP one better than the regular kind but I am on the lookout for something with less sugar in it. I've heard great things about Shakeology but I just can't bring myself to spend the money right now!

Go with Atkins Advantage shakes...It's way better/healthier than slimfast.

It's been my experience that when I get into a "constantly starving" situation, the last thing I want or should do is to drink liquid calories.

If you had said something like, "I have no time for breakfast" or "I'm not getting enough calories" I'd say go for slimfast. Well, actually I wouldn't, I'd probably recommend ensure or almost anything else over slimfast.

My suggestion is to not eat processed foods AT ALL. Or very minimal. Eat whole foods with lots of fibre. Fruit. Veggies. Lean proteins. If you are craving carbs, eat lots of fruit. I find a banana helps curb that carb craving. Processed foods are very calorie dense. Not a whole lot of bang for your buck. Eat lots of salads. 200 calories of cut up carrots, celery, grape tomatos, and cucumber goes a long way.

The problem I have with shakes and special diet foods in general is this: these aren't part of an ordinary diet, so you're dividing your life into the Dieting part and the Non-Dieting part. You may find yourself thinking as you're drinking your umpteenth shake, "I'm sick of this junk ... can't wait until I'm done with this diet and can get back to eating normally again!" Then, you lose the weight, go back to eating normally again, and within a few months you're back where you started ... if not worse off.

I've come to believe a plan that isn't based on eating ordinary, nutritious foods in reasonable portions is ultimately doomed to fail. And planning to monitor your weight, eat junk, then go back on Slimfast to lose again misses the point ... almost all of us are here because of a behavioral problem, and pretending the behavioral problem will go away when we are "done dieting" is just fooling ourselves.

By the way, Slimfast is best with a big scoop of Breyer's ice cream ... just sayin.' :)

I once left a glass of Slimfast overnight on a nightstand. When I woke up the next morning and saw that it looked like a sponge I decided to never put that into my body again.

I have drank them in the past (in 2008) but they didn't fill me up :(

I don't naturally gravitate toward milk shakes so Slimfast, protein shakes, etc do not appeal to me AND they don't fill me up.
