Hi i tried it had NO energy...tastes YUK and costs loads of money!!
try "proper" food much healthier x0 -
I bought a tub of Slimfast chocolate milkshake powder, I had one serving & it was DISGUSTING. It tasted nothing like chocolate, it smelt like sick & pretty much tasted like it too.
I ended up just leaving the rest of the tub in the cupboard.
I was going to give it another go the other week, looked on the back & each serving contains 36g of sugar, it really isn't worth it. It does nothing that eating better & exercising can't do.0 -
Here's a site that does Meal Replacement Shake Reviews and then rates them accordingly in each individual review. I like how they stress that - depending on your needs - the "top" rated one might not be a best fit for you. Their focus is giving it a review/rating, but suggesting you have a focus on which one fits your needs, budget, etc.

I need a boost after Christmas as at the moment I’m STILL eating everything in sight and finding it hard to control my diet…..really struggling, I bought some slimfast shakes before I started this and was thinking about just doing this for 5 days to see if it would give me a boost and with being busy easy to do.
Any advice, info. or tips really appreciate it….as I’ve just lost all my willpower and craving carbs so badly
Oh I forgot about this, this was one of the main reasons I stopped. That and I kept getting these flecks of blue...stuff...in my shakes (after i'd just made it) that looked like mould. I rang up the Slimfast customer support team wtf it was and the woman I spoke to said it was probably 'just chemicals'. And I just went 'hmm...how lovely' and sold my tins on eBay. *shudder*0 -
i have the slimfast milkshakes, i have the powdered ones not the ready made ones as it works out cheaper, there notvery nice but they are filling and if i still feel hungry after i have water0
-
I use the Advocare shakes and energy drinks. No hunger pangs. I only use them for meal replacement when I'm rushing to a meeting and don't have time for lunch or breakfast.0

i wouldnt do the slimfast shakes. Read the label, it has tons of sugar in it. if you want a protein shake then i suggest Optimum whey protien mix. High protein means it will keep you fuller longer. i tried doing the slimfast thing and i was hungry all the time and i actually gained weight on it0

Thanks everyone, I tried just cutting out carbs and doing high protein and worked but felt awful, after Christmas I STILL can’t get back into this and keep eating virtually everything in sight!!!! Wrok etc is busy so I don’t get chance to cook so need something I can have quickly…..
I’m definitely going to give them ago tomorrow as already have the shake, fingers crossed!!
You should also consider EAS CarbControl. At about 100-110 calories per box, 17 grams of protein and less than 5 carbs, they are really quite good. Not as delicious as other shakes but pretty nice!0 -
I use the Body by Vi (or Visalis) shake mix. I have tried others and this is the only one that I actually enjoyed. Message me if you would like more information about it. I have tons of recipes.0

I'm using Visalus Shakes on regular basis, replace 2 meals a day with it. 90 calories, low on carbs, 12g of proteins and pretty much one of the best and most affordable on the market while holding 33% of your daily nutriment needs. I get them for free so if you want any information on them, just send me a message and I will glady help. Plus, they taste like cake mix. I wouldn't go a day without them.0

The thing about shakes is have to be careful of their content. Anything with a low enough number of calories will help you lose weight (unless you eat *too* little), but if those calories come from sugar with a strong dose of salt, you won't be doing yourself any favours. Besides, if you're eating "everything in sight", what makes you think downing shakes will take any of your cravings away? If you have the self-control to stick to the shakes, you may as well just turn that will-power towards your entire diet and have proper meals with the same number of calories as the shakes, but also things like nutrients and fibre to help your health, not just your weight.0

I'm prediabetic so I drink the glucerna shakes for breakfast. It is literally like drinking a multi-vitamin that will help control hunger until lunch time and will also keep your blood sugar from spiking.
Whether you're just dieting or have problems with your sugar - glucerna shakes are a great way to get some vitamins and not have all of that unhealthy sugar that is on a lot of those drinks.0 -
If you have them go ahead and use them. You can use it as a meal replacement or if you snack most in the afternoon or night have one. I have used Shakeology once or twice to replace a meal if I am not gonna be able to eat. They are okay better than not having anything to eat and will fill you.0

If you have a juicer or mixer make your own juices and smoothies - at least you'll know what's in them and you can control the calorie amount.0
-
I wouldn't recommend it, they're full of sugar. You'de be better off just drinking a glass of 1% milk and taking a multi-vitamin.0

My doctor currently has me drinking the regular Ensure shakes, which are 250 calories each. I have one for breakfast, one for lunch, and then 600 calories for supper. I also get a 100 calorie snack. Most of the drinks were too high protein for me since I'm on a protein-restricted diet due to a kidney issue.
I like the vanilla and strawberry ones. To me, the chocolate has a metallic taste, but the dark chocolate isn't bad. I'm not a huge chocolate fan in general.0 -
The problem I have with shakes and special diet foods in general is this: these aren't part of an ordinary diet, so you're dividing your life into the Dieting part and the Non-Dieting part. You may find yourself thinking as you're drinking your umpteenth shake, "I'm sick of this junk ... can't wait until I'm done with this diet and can get back to eating normally again!" Then, you lose the weight, go back to eating normally again, and within a few months you're back where you started ... if not worse off.
Not only are you not learning to plan and eat proper meals while you're using meal replacements, but you're being psychologically conditioned to view faked up artificial chocolate, strawberry and vanilla crap as food!
To those thinking of using that junk, my view is that anything with that much sugar in isn't going to be passing my lips unless it's a hell of a lot nicer than slimfast!0 -
Try making your own with a high quality protein powder (I like Optimum Nutrition Gold standard Whey) and soy milk. Add whatever flavors you want (or not, ON comes in lots of good flavors). Less than 200 calories with over 40g protein with added calcium from the soy milk. ON is very natural and doesn't have a lot of junk in it like the prepared shakes. This is my breakfast almost every day, and a great after workout or an I-don't-have-time-to-get-anything-healthy-snack. Add lots of natural fiber to your diet and you won't feel hungry and don't forget a good multi-vitamin.
My experience has been that the prepared shakes and bars that contain sugars or even low glycemic substitutes promote carb cravings and when I stop using them I go back to the carb things I love (thus gaining the lost weight back) - the only way I found to break the carb cycle was to quit sugars cold turkey for a few days (if you can without health risks of course - not a good idea for diabetics!) - eventually the carb cravings go away and you will find it easier to stay on track with your nutrition without having to resort to meal replacement shakes.
Good luck!

Not gonna lie, I personally avoid them after a nasty episode. Let's just say that vanilla slim fast doesn't taste or smell as good the second time around, and when it's going out your nose.
If you're looking for something healthy, try making your own smoothies. Frozen fruit, yogurt, some OJ, and some almonds are what I use. I feel so much better after drinking one!0 -

You mean like the "milk shakes" they sell at McDonald's and other fast-food joints?0 -
I don't normally advocate shakes for weight loss, but, when I had several small children, including a preschooler, a toddler and a newborn, and I was raising them alone, I used to mix chocolate Slim Fast with milk and then mix my coffee in with it for breakfasts. It was kind of like a mocha tasting coffee. I didn't have an appetite for breakfast after being up through most nights with babies that had health problems, but I knew I should probably put some sort of cals in my body to help fuel me for each day, so every morning I would stumble out of bed, mix up my Slim Fast and coffee and drink up. I lost 25 pounds with Slim Fast, and proper nutrition for the other two meals, and diligent exercise when my littles were very small.
That said, however, if you are "still eating everything in sight" from the holidays, Slim Fast isn't going to be a magic pill that all of a sudden releases your cravings. It seems like you might end up adding cals if you start drinking a Slim Fast and then you still can't control your cravings-it won't help, it will just add the cals of the Slim Fast to your [already not so good] day.
Maybe you could try just getting one meal in order at a time...say, a healthy breakfast first for a week, then healthy breakfast and lunch for a week, etc.0 -

I've still got my slim fast powder left so going to try again this week but having something with them as someone said you can have 3 x 100cal snacks in the day too which I didn't relaise.
I just had an apple cut into slices with my strawberry shake for breakfast and my usual cup of yorkshire tea to wake me up!
what else can I have for 100 cals? (no nuts I'm allergic to them)
would salad (or veg) with fish or chicken be enough for dinner? .. as I don't eat white carbs (potato, rice, pasta, bread)0
