Hi I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice,
I started doing fitness classes and watching what I eat about September last year my starting weight was 322lbs and everything was ok but since christmas time I have not lost any weight or inches and I have incresed my exercise classes but nothing has helped.
I dont know if im eating too much or not enough.
My current weight is 295lbs, I am female and 6ft tall. I do kettlercise, aqua zumba and normal zumba twice a week and I have also started jogging once a week.

It's hard to tell what the problem could be because your diary is locked. If you make it public in the settings menu, we can take a look at your eating habits and might be able to come up with some suggestions!0

Hi I think I have just canged it to public0

I think the setting are now open thanks0

Are you measuring your food - using a food scale or just eyeballing it? It's important to know exactly how much you're eating for your portions size. If you're not already measuring, get out the measuring cups and buy a reliable food scale to help. Make sure your diet is balanced - not too much fat & sugar, but a good mix of vegetables, fruit and protein and healthy carbs.
If you are following the MFP guidelines for calories, you should start to see weight loss again. Good luck0 -
Hi I now think it I have managed to unlock my profile.
I do believe I am measuring my food and portion size is being checked.
I know I have not been eating as much fruit/veg as possible but I have been trying to eat as little processed food as possible and add veg to all meal.
I do believe the weigght loss will start again and I am not prepared to give up either way.
I was just hoping someone could spot problems that I am blind to0 -
I just looked a a few days of your diary and youre not eating nearly enough.
Eat the number of calories MFP is telling you to eat and drink your water.0 -
You seem to eat pretty well, but you are not eating enough. I looked through 3-4 days and you ALWAYS have a large amount of calories leftover at the end of the day. You need to get that bottom number as close to zero as you possibly can. I'm guessing you're creating too large of a calorie deficit and your body isn't receiving the proper fuel. You workout pretty hard and your body NEEDS food in order to feel comfortable enough to lose weight. When it isn't getting enough, it starts to panic a bit and weight loss slows down or even stops.
I say aim to get those calories (the bottom number) as close to zero as possible each day. Do that for a month and see what happens. I'm guessing as soon as you start eating more and your body adjusts to it, you'll see a loss.
BTW, when you up your calories -- you may see a gain at first -- this is normal. Your body is adjusting to eating more food. Don't panic and drop your calories back down, it will fix itself usually within a couple weeks.
Good Luck.0 -
including exercise points as I dont think I can eat them aswell0

Based on what you've entered in your diary, you're definitely not eating too much. I would say you're not eating enough. You're consistently under your recommended net calorie intake so you may have plateaued as a result. Try eating back your exercise calories and see if that helps:)0
-
i was able to see it. With all of your exercising it looks like you aren't eating enough. I wasn't able to look at the sugar and the salt totals. So those could be high. Are you drinking aleast 8 to 10 glasses of water or more0
-
Make sure you at the correct calories, protein etc and change up your routine. Our bodies become accustomed to what w do and soon exercise becomes normal so we stop reacting to it. Change it up little. Every now and then go over your calorie intake to 'scare' your body into working better.0

MFP has already figured in a deficit for you when it gave you your daily calorie goals. It figures you aren't going to workout, so it takes all your information you entered and takes the deficit out of that. By not eating back a good chunk of those exercise calories, you're creating too large of a deficit. Your body is starving.
I know it sounds counterproductive, but you HAVE to eat to lose weight.0 -
I eat the 1800ish it tells me but my exercise classes give me approx 800 more, so I should be eating these aswell?
I do drink the recomended water but dont add it to my diary.0 -
Are you eating all of your activity earned calories? I try not to eat the calories that I earn from exercising. I do on some days like today is my husbands birthday,...Water is key, I have found it is important to drink plenty of water. I would recommend trying a few weeks of eating only what MFP says you should consume in a day and see how that works out.0
-
Some people will tell you you HAVE to eat your exercise calories!
But it does vary from person to person. My opinion is that as long as you are actually consuming at least 1200 calories per day, then you're OK.
And you are. You do seem to eat the same things a lot of the time, and to me, your carbs are really high.
Introduce more fruit and veg (you've recognised this already) and try having one meal a day that isn't so carb heavy.0 -
I think nutrition is part of it also... are you eating good nutrition? I only looked at a few days, but I don't see too many vegetables or fruit in your diet. If you give your body lots of nutrients it will be better able to respond to the exercise that you are doing. Just a thought.0
-
You really MUST eat back most, if not all, of your exercise calories.
I know it's hard. I have trouble too.
Try eating four or five smaller meals a day instead of three large ones. If you can't do that, try snacking on nuts :flowerforyou:
*EDIT* I stopped eating my exercise calories for a couple of weeks to see what would happen. My weight loss stalled completely, I even gained a little bit back.0 -
Have you "reset" your MFP goals since your weight loss? You have to do that every now and again … I don't know that there's a hard and fast rule, but I'd say every 10 to 15 lbs. You will need to eventually decrease your caloric intake to maintain a deficit for weight loss. And, sadly, the more you lose, the fewer calories you burn doing the same exercise. Also, be sure to do a good balance of strength and cardio training. I am a firm believer in that you need to do both for health and weight loss. You may need to pick up the effort? You're the only one who's going to know. Basically, once something becomes "easy" to do, it's time to make it more difficult. In strength training, that could be upping the weights/resistance and/or number of reps. In cardio, it means you may have to pick up your feet a bit more… do more with your arms… depends on what types of routines you're doing.
Lastly, be sure you are feeding your body the nutrients it needs. It's certainly not just about staying within your calorie goal. It's about making sure your body is getting a healthy balance of carbs, fats, and protein and all the vitamins and minerals that are so important to your overall health. Now, I'm the first to say that I believe in treating yourself. Of course, you have to know your own limits. The first couple of weeks, I had to not have any of my favorite "junk" foods because I just couldn't control it. But, I've managed to get past that phase! I have chocolate every day.
But, it's limited and I make sure it's something that I can savor! I've moved to dark chocolate mostly, which can be lower in fat and sugar… but you really need to watch the labels to be sure! I love dark chocolate and almonds or dark chocolate and cranberries. I used to hate it because I thought it was too bitter… but I think since I've changed my eating habits in general, I like a lot more things than I used to.
I certainly admire your determination to stay with it! Best of luck to you! :flowerforyou:0 -
Ok cool thank you for all your advice, I will up my fruit and veg calories and try adding extra bits here and there and see how things go.
I never thought it was under eating as I am never hungary.0 -
Ok, I viewed your diary for the year to date and noticed these things:
Your calorie intake is very variable. Try to eat roughly around the same amount of calories per day, and try to spread your calories out over the 3 main meals and snacks. Reasoning? Your body is not being given enough time to adjust to the plan you're on, so when you have a low cal day, it will hold onto fat as a defense against starvation. When you eat regularly, and evenly, your body will settle down and use fat as fuel because it is being fed regularly. Also, watch those high sugar and fat snacks!! They will only make you feel hungry as they play havoc with your insulin and energy burning system. Drink more water. Start to log this as I can't see what you are drinking. Make it easier by either filling a water bottle, or ticking off cups at the tap. Watch your carb/protein/fat ratio of calories. There are lots of theories about this... I go for about 50/30/20.. making sure the carbs come mostly from 'wet' foods (fruits and vege, not pasta and bread), the protein is lean, and the fats are from good sources (fish, raw nuts, olive oil).
Patience naturally! Remember, the body responds to consistency... if you are consistent with exercise, eating, and with attitude, you will get results... It may take up to 6 weeks to see these changes because the body is stubborn regarding fat loss. Use the mirror and a tape measure to track your progress, scales are notoriously unreliable. My weight varies by up to 3 Kg a week.
Best of luck :happy:0 -
Fireman Sam gave you some good advice! I'd like to add that you should eat a little more protein. Boiled eggs, walnuts, cheese even, "in moderation". And if you haven't tried Greek yogurt you should! It's soooooo good! And high in protein. Oh yes. please throw away the coco pops,
, Good luck! 0 -

She hasn't been eating them and it isn't working. So, it is time to try something new. I merely suggested (like others did) that she isn't losing weight and she has A LOT of calories leftover each day. Perhaps she should try eating more and see if that helps. There are a lot of people on here (myself included) that can not live on 1200 calories a day. There are a lot of people on here (myself included) who weren't eating their exercise calories back and weren't losing. As soon as they started eating more, they started to lose weight again. You HAVE to fuel your body to lose. At 6ft tall, 259lbs and burning 800+ calories working out - she NEEDS to eat.
Also, I consume a large quantity of carbs in a day. Carbs, like fat -- won't make you fat unless you have a medical condition.0 -
Hmmm, that's a bit "I'm right, you're wrong" isn't it?
I'm allowed to give my opinion - I'm not a nutritionist or a doctor - like everyone else on here, we can say what worked for us, or give suggestions to others.0 -

I felt your post was a bit "Everyone is wrong and I'm right" by stating what you did about not eating the exercise calories.
I was just saying that what she's doing hasn't been working for her. If it isn't working, then it is time to try something else. I would have given the EXACT same advice to someone who said "I've been eating my exercise calories and I'm not losing weight". I would have told them that if what they're doing isn't working and to try something new. To stop eating them all and give it a month to see what happens.
Opinion is fine, but it seemed that you were arguing with everyone who was trying to tell her that perhaps eating back some of those calories is what her body needs. Not every female on this site can eat 1200 calories, not eat their exercise calories back and lose weight. I think when you're at a standstill, frustrated and looking for advice - it's good to hear from people who've successfully lost weight while doing the complete opposite of what you've been doing.0 -
Apologies if it came across that way - sometimes it's hard to get the message "sounding" right on an internet forum!0
