such as
CHEATING
BAD, as in I WAS BAD
I am ON a diet (not the same as I eat a healthy diet)

do people still try to lose weight because of an event, or not have breakfast without realizing how badly it screws up their metabolism? Or feel that if they eat a cookie , not a whole bag, but ONE, that they screwed up their whole day??

I HOPE NOT! Get rid of this mentality and it will save you from a lot of aggravation.

You aren't a cheater if you eat too many calories- you just ate too many calories- move on - it's ok to have a free meal a week- but to call it a cheat meal makes it sound like you're a bad person. If a thin person eats a lot- who calls them a cheater?

Ok done with rant! :)

My diet mentality has changed so much back from when I started ALL this dieting nonsense back all the way from when I was 8 years old! I'm almost 43 in April. It was so bad for me. If I were on a diet and I accidently took a swig of someones regualr soda, I would run and spit it out and freak out about it! I also felt like you said, would eat one cookie or somethig so called "Bad", and oops, I blew it, mise well eat it up for the rest if the day! Very, very bad to think that way because this is NOT how it works! Everything in moderation! I lost 104lbs over the last year by eating anything I want, but in moderation. Lately I have been slacking a bit more than I'd like to be, but I am working on that. It takes great effort and determination to stick with exercising and healthy eating but like I always say, It's doable"! I feel for people with the "olden days" diet mentality because I was that person and it makes it so hard on yourself.

I also wanted to add that this is why when so many people start a diet in January for their New Year's Resolutions, they end up giving it up because either thay were too strict or their mentality is all wrong! I love it when I go to the store and see all the diet foods, pills, drink and exercise equipment displayed! It cracks me up, I started my new years resolution back in November 2010.....didn't wait for January, and that is when you know you mean business....LOL! Good luck to everyone out there just starting, we all know how trying it is. Just remember that everyday is a *New* day and a new beginning to start again on the road to health and wellness! Now if only I could do the same with my quitting smoking! :) Hugs all.

Hello all! I just find it funny how different weight loss is now from when I was on my first "diet" at age 14 back in 1983. It was all about deprivation, starvation, cheating exercise being equated to torture and bla bla bla. People still, unfortunately fall for this nonsense. What's funny is that when I was 14, I seriously thought I would never, ever have a piece of cake or cookie ever again. What kind of resentment does one feel?
