I'm doing jillian 30 ds 4 x per week and nmtz 2 x per week and sweating like a maniac whenever i work out. i'm in control of my diet and staying under my calories every day. i'm 43 and i like to drink wine on the weekends. i'm toning some, losing some, but i'm losing inches in my chest more than anywhere else and my tummy will NOT go away. wtf? anyone else experience this?

First on, last off for me!!

I lose top to bottom, my upper body is toned but I am just now losing my "pooch". Just be patience and it will happen in it's own (slow) time

    Good luck on your journey.

Are you sure it's not bloating or anything of the sort? If not, you'll just have to be patient. My love handles only go after everything else has shrank (like my boobs grrr). That;s my problem area...

Unfortunately you can't spot lose. Being a guy, I'm not concerned with losing from the top :P. However, my body retains its fat around the midsection. I'll start losing weight in my face/neck, then arms/legs (which are pretty lean anyways), then finally my midsection and torso. It just depends on your body.

Someone above mentioned bloating...I took a peek at your diary and there is a lot of cheese. I know cheese makes me bloated. Maybe try adding more veggies too, like peppers, spinach, mushrooms? I'm also assuming you drink a lot of water but might not be logging it...water really helps. Good fats like olive oil, almonds, avocado. Abs are mostly made in the kitchen and I know I can't see mine unless I'm eating clean.

    Good luck!!

you're probably right about the cheese. i LOVE cheese and i used to deprive myself of it completely. since doing mfp, i realized i can eat more calories than i thought and since i don't eat meat, i feel like i can have cheese....but maybe i'm going a little nuts huh? and yes, i drink a ton of water. i should do more veggies too i love veggies but never seem to give myself time to prepare them.....

p.s. i'll do whatever you say to get my stomach to look like yours!!!

Hi :) I also took a look at your food diary...I've gotta say, I've never seen so much processed food outside a supermarket! Your sodium intake must be huge, which could well be contributing to your tummy (water retention). I also noticed that you don't each much in the way of greens or good protein, which would certainly help. Try some quick tossed salads with tasty dressings (I like a mix of caramelized white balsamic/olive oil/grain mustard) or for a treat, a mix of coconut milk/cream and a touch of sweet chilli sauce (a bit high on sugar but only a small amount). I'd also keep an eye on you overall carbohydrate intake, aim for 50-100g a day for weight loss and 100-150g a day for maintenance. Hope this helps!
  • Ive lost mostly from my boobs and top waist area. I've taken soda out of my diet and added green tea. I even quit putting salt on my food. My belly is starting to get flatter but not as flat as i want it to be. But I know it takes time. When you work your abs out try adding some weights to the workout, that's what I'm going to start doing tomorrow since Ive noticed a change in my body so far. But goodluck!!!

    1. Drink one glass of water every hour. It will make you feel full. 2. Drink ice cold water. Your body will burn calories just getting the water to a normal temperature to digest. Also it is great for your complexion. 3. Drink 3 cups of green tea daily. It will help boost your metabolism, plus its anti-oxidants make your skin look great. 4. Take vitamins daily. Do not take vitamins on an empty stomache, otherwise they have nothing to catalyze with. 5. Eat ice or gum when hungry. This will make your body think it had food without the calories.

great tips everyone! thank you! amanda - i've been trying to get away from the processed stuff and for the most part try to eat only natural foods. the cheese snacks are actually just cheese, nothing processed and my only truly processed stuff i think is the ff cool whip and the sugar free pudding (helps me soooo much with the sweet tooth!) but you're right - i need to eat cleaner! flucas - i've been wondering about the green tea thing. this past year, i've cut out soda completely and have only sparkling water or plain water which i'm pretty proud of. i've tried green tea, but it's not sweet enough for me. what do you use?

I'm working my way back to my abs. I had surgery and had to take a break from the gym. But I'm about 4 weeks back into it and making great progress. Here is what I do:

Drink 10-14 glasses of water a day
Eat as clean as possible (whole grains, love veggies, almonds, almond butter, greek yogurt, almond milk, black beans, I leave my meat off since you don't eat meat, blueberries, steel cut oats, quinoa)
    Eat frequently throughout the day
Try to have all 3 macros present every time I eat
I eat at least my lbm in protein
    I lift HEAVY 3 times a week
HIIT Cardio 3-5 times a week

I think my diary is open to the public, feel free to take a peek and let me know if you can't see it.

    Good luck!

Wow! Thank you for the insight. Questions: how frequently do you eat and how much? What are the "3 macros"? what is your "lbm in protein"; how heavy is your heavy lifting and what sort of cardio do you do?

Whatever it is you're doing, it's working! You look HOT!!!
