Bumpy skin/acne..does this happen to anyone else?

I realized since I started exercise almost everyday around 4-5 months ago, my acne has gotten worse. Not big, obnoxious pimples bad, but I have these tiny bumps around my nose and above my lip. They're kind of like whiteheads; squeeze them and stuff comes out (sorry if that was gross!). I have suspicions that it comes from the act of wiping my sweat, usually onto my shirt. I've tried not doing it as much but I don't want the sweat to go in my mouth (and I REALLY work up sweats when I work out). I thought about using a towel instead but the same action of WIPING the sweat would probably result in the same manner.

Does this happen to anyone else? Any good solutions for this?

  • I have really sensitive skin, and any sweat/bacteria makes me break out, REALLY badly, not only white heads, but the under the skin pimples that hurt really bad, too! When I first started going to the gym regularly, I broke out all over my face and neck, so weird! I have a few solutions that have worked great for me that you could try (and they're super cheap!)

-If your gym as a stream/sauna room, utilize it! Your pores will open, letting all the dirt and bacteria fall out of your pores, making sure they don't stay there and cause pimples later. And the hot rooms feel great, and some studies say that they actually heat p your body enough to help you burn more calories.

-Make sure to wipe off your face before and after working out. Walgreens and Walmart both sell Witches Hazel, which is a natural astringent that helps keep your pores tight and moisturized, improving skin overall. I use a little Witches Hazel and cotton pads to wipe down my face. I think a bottle of Witches Hazel runs about $3 and a pack of cotton pads is about $2.

-Wash your face with a more drying soap. I recently started using Safegaurd soap and my skin is COMPLETELY clear. I used to use Cetaphil ($15 a bottle, yikes) and I was still getting pimples, but Safegaurd works great.

Good luck, and I hope your skin clears up!

I find that if I use certain types of shampoos, or certain types of laundry detergent I break out. Maybe the detergent you're using is the culprit?

And like the person above said, witch hazel is great (but it doesn't moisturize your skin, it dries it out). It also cleans your skin and if your skin is red it calms it down.

As far as fancy skin care goes I've tried clinique, over the counter equivalents, and viche and I'm just inlove with viche.

I too have had this problem since I started consciously losing weight about a month ago. I asked my Dad, who is a paramedic and a nurse, and he said that, because estrogen and testosterone (both men and women have some levels of both hormones) are fat soluble hormones and I am burning fat, the hormones get released and find their way through the blood stream and eventually affect your face. The excess amount of hormones in your system is making the same thing happened that probably occurred when you were a teenager- your face breaking out. I just use face wash with salicylic acid every day, a exfoliating scrub to get through the dead skin and stuff that clogs my pores, a 2.5% benzoyl peroxide acne treatment to fry the bacteria, and then a hypoallergenic moisturizer to put moisture back in my skin because the benzoyl peroxide really dries out the skin. Hope this helps!
