Hello, I have hit a plateau and am in the midst of changing things up based on input from my MFP support:) What would be a realistic carb and sugar goal to set. Years ago when I was working with a trainer he want me to keep my carbs under 35...any thoughts?

Are you diabetic or do you have any other insulin related medical condition?0

My endocrinologist said no more than 45g carbs per meal and I am 5'10", 290 when he said that (and when I joined MFP), and hypothyroid. I usually average between 150 and 200 a day, but I also have about 2-3 cups of coffee a day and that accounts for 6g each with my half and half. What helped me get past my plateau was to eat more and zig-zag my calories (over a few hundred one day, under a few hundred the next). Before I was averaging 1200 or below every day and I stalled about 6 weeks in and didn't lose again until I ate on average closer to the 1500 MFP recommended.
Man...that's a lot of numbers.0 -
I hope you mean 35% instead of 35g. I struggle to keep my carb intake at 40% of my diet. I'd DIE on 35g a day. I have friends on Atkins who do low carb, but I tried it for 3 days and became physically ill. I ate a dozen donuts and came back to life like Super Mario getting a mushroom!!0

MFP wants me to eat about 1600 cal a day but based on calculations of BMR and maintenance amount based on the "Olivia method" I should be eating 1233 to create a 370 calorie deficit without exercise. If I can get in 630 calories expended in exercise then that should create a 1000 calorie deficit for me and in theory give me a 2 # a week weight loss. - 3500 cal. = 1 # weight loss so 7000 cal deficit in 1 week should ideally give me a 2 # weight loss . No luck so far even with the 1000 cal. deficit most days. I think because my problem is predominately my stomach in that the fat is not motivated to get the heck off of me so now I will really monitor my sugar and carb. intake and see if that does anything.0

Nope............He said under 35 grams a day! It worked back then but i remember being immensely frustrated!0

Don't know if this is helpful to you at all, but the drop from 55% carbs to 40% carbs was a good move for me. Good luck!0

Focus on getting adequate protein and fats and the carbs take care of themselves.0

Damn it... He's probably right, as usual.
I was told to keep mine under 50g per day. I hated it and failed horribly. Now I only try to keep it lower than it used to be. It's not good enough, though. I really should be focusing on the stuff he just mentioned. I'm just stubborn and it shows! :laugh:0
