It's only been shown to help if one were to drink at least 4-6 glasses daily.
  • I wish I knew for sure! But I drink two cups nightly....just because it's comforting to me and sort of "signals" me to stop eating for the day. After dinner, I have tea and it's become habit now....

Green tea promotes weight loss but also is SO good for you for so many more reasons.
From webMD - "More than a decade's worth of research about green tea's health benefits -- particularly its potential to fight cancer and heart disease -- has been more than intriguing, as have limited studies about green tea's role in lowering cholesterol, burning fat, preventing diabetes and stroke, and staving off dementia. Green tea has important antioxidants and compounds that help in maintaining good health."

"I believe in green tea based on everything written about it," says Katherine Tallmadge, RD, LD, a nutritionist and spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association. "Green tea, white tea, black tea -- I like all of them."

I don't like the taste of green tea, so i take the extract pills with one or two meals a day. Hard to tell if it works, but I like to think it does :)

Green tea is healthy, but unfortunately it is not a magical weight loss solution. It minimally boosts your metabolism, partly just because of the caffeine. It won't impact your weight loss much, but it is high in antioxidants which is wonderful for you!
  • I have no idea if its just a fluke, but i know that when I drink a cup about 20 minutes before every meal I drop weight like crazy. I drink about 4 cups a day and it helps me, but everybody is different. Just give it a try and see how it impacts you.

I drink 8-12 cups a day and have not found that it makes me lose any more or less. I just love the taste of it and I have been a green tea drinker for a very long time.

I believe like moderation and many of the other suggestions you will see posted on MFP that it depends. If you don't normally drink it and start, you might see beneifts. If you have been drinking it for years and increase your intake, you might not see a difference. I will say that during the periods of my life where I loss the most weight, I was drinking tea daily.
  • I take two green tea extract pills daily, I use to drink it a bunch and I want to get into the habit of drinking it with every meal again. I stick to diet green tea, usually store brand or Arizona brand.

I have found benefits when taking green tea extract as a supplement, but it's far from a magical weight loss pill. It appears to help, but only a little bit. To get a benefit, I need to take a good deal of it, which is not very cheap (4500 mg green tea extract for 1125 mg EGCG daily, spread over three doses). This is way more than you will drink in liquid form.

It might help you get a tiny bit of extra progress, like it has for me, but it is certainly not going to work any miracles.

Green tea is good for you but it's not going to make you shrink.

And be aware that green tea inhibits the absorption of folic acid. So if you drink a lot of it, you might want to take a supplement of folic acid. It's especially important for woman who are trying to conceive or are pregnants.
