Can ya tell I'm bored today.....Has anyone ever heard of scheduling weddings around sports games? My boyfriend and I are going to a wedding tomorrow night that my brother is best man in, and they're both griping about missing game 5 of the stanley cup finals (Go Wings!). This got us talking about our future wedding and how we both like the fall....which is of course college football season.

We're not quite engaged yet, but we've talked about getting married next fall, and I noticed that my parents anniversary falls on a saturday that year (my mom passed away five years ago and I thought getting married on their anniversary would be a nice tribute). But of course U of M is playing Penn state that day and he said it's a nasty game that his family will most likely want to watch. In the end he said not to worry, we'll have TV's at the reception(haha, funny:grumble: ).

I know sports are important to some people, and granted he's not quite as bad as the guy from Fever Pitch, but my bf is quite the sports fanatic. Is this a common thing to have to schedule weddings around a sports game?

I knew my hubby was a keeper when he married me on opening day of fishing season (and he didn't even go fishing!)

I live in Nebraska and during the college football season it seems like all weddings are scheduled around the games. I have been to wedding receptions that have had tv's available to watch the game. Last year on a bye weekend there were at least 5 weddings in town that I knew of.

    First off: GO PENS!!!!

Second, I live in East Tennessee and our football fans are rabid! It's really common for fall brides to plan their weddings on the Saturdays that the Vols have away games so that traffic isn't bad AND so that people will actually come! Last season there was a Saturday that no games were scheduled, but that was changed at the last minute. The UT athletic office was flooded with calls from angry women saying that they had ruined their weddings!

UGH! So many people have asked me if my wedding was during an Ohio State game. I told them I didnt know and didnt care. The lady at the reception hall told me that I may have angry guests if I request the TVs not to be turned on. If you want to watch the game instead of celebrating my wedding with me, feel free to go home and watch it. :grumble:

I'm with you on that one. Nothing pisses me off more than to be at a wedding and see 10 guys in tuxes gathered around a TV in the hotel lobby. :noway:

The BF and I (once we're engaged--if he ever flippin proposes :grumble: ) will not be getting married during Buckeye Football Season EVER. I have a friend who actually moved her wedding date because it fell on the Buckeye/Michigan football game.

I just don't have Buckeye Fever like every other single person that lives in this state! Looks like they're playing Illinois that day.

My husband joked that he wouldn't get married to me during Steeler football season. Hmm, I wonder if that's why we got married in May.

Our daughter was born in September last year. DH joked that he'd be watching football while I was in labor. So when he'd be saying "Go, go go!" it would be for both me and the game. LOL. Luckily our daughter was born on a Wednesday so we were home from the hospital in time for DH to watch the first football game of the year that Sunday. :noway:

Oh I don't know, regular season games, yeah, wedding is far more important, but if you're talking about your team being in the cup? Or the WS, or the Superbowl, or the Finals? Ouch, you gotta expect a bit of anger there. I know I'd be pissed if I had to go to a wedding during the Superbowl if the Patriots were in it. Well, I'd only be pissed if they didn't allow us to watch at the reception.

And tivo'ing the superbowl just doesn't cut it Ker, sorry lady.

but I would wholeheartedly agree, college or pro, If you can't miss a regular season game, then you have a problem and should go seek help.

Oh, I wouldn't even dream of picking the day of the Ohio state/U of M plays. I really think he would leave me at the altar to go watch the game, lol.

Luckily most Saturday football games are in the afternoon (I hope) and I would like an evening wedding....nice to know there are more of my boyfriend's "kind" out there though and he's not alone in his craziness.

I live in alabama where the University of Alabama and Auburn university rivalry is really strong. My cousin had her wedding on the BIG game day so during the reception i had a headphones on listening to it. The funny thing is, the man who married them kept on asking me the score! lol
