Ok I need some advice and a stern talking too! I am really good at tracking what I eat Monday-Thursday, then the weekend comes and I blow it!! Its to the point that I am maintaining on the weekdays but gaining weight on the weekend. Since 1/12/12 I have gained 5pds, this is unexceptable since I would like to lose!! For those who struggle or have struggled with this how did you get over it?
I am for the most part logging what I eat on the weekends but not everything:indifferent:
I spend time with my older sister on the weekends and asked her and my "friend" to help me chose better options or tell me know when I want to order large amounts of take out.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or comments!

I know exactly how you feel.. and i think the majority of people struggle with this. for me i am like clockwork mon thru friday b/c of my job. and i workout the same time evry day. but then saturday comes around and its harder. you need to make sure you are prepared. if you know you are going to not eat the greatest on the weekend.. then bust your *kitten* during the week. if you know you cant make it to the gym on a sat or sunday, then go a little harder each day you go during the week. It takes 3 weeks to break a habit.. so once you get thru that time.. things will get easier.!

I also struggle on the weekends. Knowing that I am going to go out to dinner, I usually hit the treadmill for as long as possible on Saturdays. I couldn't this weekend because I had the flu and yet still went out to eat - and grossed myself out. I am trying harder to plan my meals in advance. If I know what I am eating, then I know whether or not I will be in my calorie limits ahead of time. I have also been making big pots of soup on the weekends (normally) so I have a nice healthy option when everyone else wants junk. Plus I also take the soup leftovers to work which beats fast food or a frozen dinner.

A couple of suggestions off the top of my head:

    1. I would suggest try putting in what you are going to eat for the weekend into your food Diary on Thursday. Maybe this will help you in that your decision on what to eat is already made.

    2. Fast for the day, workout, and then eat what you want at night. I usually blow my diet in the evening hours myself. I have found this approach to work wonders for me.

    3. Make your weekend meals healthy options you have never tried that you have to cook. Make it more of an adventure/fun activity. One perhaps your onesan and amigo can join in.

    4. Choose Nicer resturants with a fish and veggie dish, while costing, will be a healthier option.

    5. Oh yeah .. No alcohol! that shizzle is horbizzle on the body.
  • I know what you mean as well, I gained 10 lbs last year when i stopped smoking, and only started working out in october last year. I've been breaking the habit gradually, firstly by adding a workout on the Friday which i wasn't doing before, and only drinking alcohol once a week instead of twice. My boyfriend insists on fried breakfasts and scones with cream at weekends so that was hard to break, i swapped brekky for muesli, and when he has scones i tend to have a much lower calorie treat like weight watchers carrot cakes or something (as 2 scones with cream & jam = 700 Cals!!) I've stopped gaining now and have lost 6lbs since christmas.

Lets not pretend it's easy.. but it does become a new habit.

I think a lot of people have this issue because the weekend is supposed to be the "fun" time. Its the two days where we get to do what we want. The problem is people lose their own accountability.

Here is the stern talking part - The only person who can stay on track is you. Asking your friend and sister to monitor your diet is taking the responsibility off yourself. Take ownership of the fact that you are making the choices to eat big, unhealthy meals.

I am not trying to be mean as I do this as well. I like to eat out on the weekends but I still try to make healthy choices. It doesn't happen all the time and the only person I blame is myself. If I know I am going to eat out on the weekend, I also plan for it. I modify my calorie intake for the day so that when I eat out, it wont do as much damage.

Make the choice to log everything - good and bad. If you know you are going to be upset with yourself for blowing your diet on Monday - then work hard not too. Weight loss is a struggle but it is not impossible. Even if you fall off the wagon for a meal or day - get back on it. One bad decision at a meal doesn't have to ruin the rest of your diet for the day. Okay - I think I put enough cliches in here.

Work on it girl - you will beat this!!

Weekends ca be the devil. Sure, I have more time available to workout and exercise and keep my body moving but I also have more time to sit around and snack and binge on junk I shouldn't. And people to see, things to do, etc get in the way of eating healthy. Its hard to control the weekend cravings.

You are not alone! BUT if its what you really want, if its your goal to be more healthy and to lose weight, then you have to find it WITHIN YOURSELF to get the job done on the weekend. Figure out what works for you. For me, I know that I am going to be more inclined to have bad "cheat" meals and drink on the weekend. So I make sure that my weekend workouts are double the calorie burn of the week days and most important that I get up and get the workout done before the day gets away from me and I excuse exercise away.

Its completely within your ability to change the weekend struggles. You have to want it, you have to own it, you have to find the motivation to do what you know you can do.

    My advice -
    - get in extra exercise on the weekends (this helps cover some slipping of the healthy diet or allows for snacks and drinks)
    - pre-plan your weekend meals. Don't wait till the last second and then reach for the bag of chips because you are hungry. Coordinate your meals and know them ahead of time and make healthy choices.
    - Just say no to the peer pressure to snack with others on fatty, salty, sweet things. Reach for your pre-approved weekend snack instead (carrot sticks, fresh fruit, nuts, etc).

Once you get beyond having the unhealthy foods control your weeekend, you will succeed on Fr-Sat-Sun. Good luck!

A lot of sympathy, this was always my problem too. I never found a quick fix, but I have improved by following a couple of rules.

When I go out I drink vodka and tonic or lime and soda.

When I'm going out for drinks I leave a healthy meal in the fridge, so if everyone is having take out on the way home I wont.

If I know I'm going to be around food I work out in the morning - I gain myself calories and also after all that effort I don't want to spoil it so I'm usually better.

If you find the answer let me know! (Maybe tape my mouth shut, Lol! ;-)

I am exciting in thinking that the weight I gained in the last week is water weight. My binging on the weekends are bad but not bad enough that I would gain 5 pds. Girls you know what I am talking about I think I am having a visitor this week.
