I buy generally healthy food at the grocery store; so as long as I eat the food I have at home I do pretty good. I love love love to eat out, however, and end up ordering very unhealthy items and eating all of it!!!! This isn't only bad for me, but also for my bank account! Does anyone else have this problem? What do you guys do to overcome?

TRy not to eat all that fast food. That stuff will kill you. I am totally guilty of it. I dont eat it alot though. Kick your *kitten* not to eat it! Say, "HEll no, Im going to Subway, turn the car around SUBWAY SUBWAY SUBWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0

My favorite places are: Chilis, Red Robin, Jimmy Johns, Subway, & Panera Bread.... I like to think that it's somewhat better than "fast food".... but...... the portions are WAY too big to be considered "healthy."0

I used to be like this too. I used to eat out a LOT. Living alone does that to you.. and also the fact that I had to walk past about 200 restaurants and cafes on my way home from work... It was just convenient and easy..
But yes, costly and expensive on my health as well. I'm allergic to a lot of the ingredients, but still ate it... so I'd feel like absolute crap and get sick...
I moved places, and now when I am on my way home, I still go past a lot of restaurants...both on the bus and on foot... so I changed my route to limit the number of places I would want to eat at... I no longer walk past the Indian restaurant I used to frequent twice weekly ... haha...
I eat at home and prepare my meals so I know what's in them and slowly my cravings are disappearing. I actually dread eating out now, cos I know how I will feel afterwards0 -
I like to eat at restaurants too. I look up the menu and plan before I go. Sometimes I enter the food into my diary before I order so that I am less tempted to stray off my plan.0

I don't eat out much but when I do, I usually just ask for a to-go container and put half my meal in it before I even start eating. Then I have lunch or dinner the next day and don't eat too much. If it's an especially big serving or a high-calorie meal, I might even put 2/3 or 3/4 of it in the container and have several meals to enjoy at home over the next few days (or to share with my husband if he's not with me).0

Exercise self control and limit going out for food for a start. Save it as a treat, find out before hand what you're going to order so you can really contemplate what you're going to eat and decide if you'd rather prefer a lighter option for the effort required to burn off the bad stuff you'll otherwise eat. And then stick to it. Choose a side salad no dressing as a side instead of potato/rice products. Dress with a little vinegar, no oil ... little changes like that can diminish the damage done by eating out.
I try not to go out more than twice a month and then even then I go to Nandos and order the healthiest meal I can that I'll also enjoy, which in fact is really yummy and filling.0 -
Best idea is to eat less of what you listed... but....
I love JJ's and RR's, ... panera and subway doesn't do much for me..had Panera a few times and it was nothing spectacular. Subway is downright boring.
however, when I do eat there:
Subway, get with no mayo or no cheese. Subway is way inferior to Jimmy John's in my opinion though.
JJ's, ... they slather on the mayo which is a ton of calories. Ask for easy mayo or no mayo at all and go for the dijon.
RR's ..order your burger in a lettuce wrap, saves you a couple hundred calories.. ...my problem is the fries. I try to limit it to the original portion they give you and call it good.
As to how you control your habit? ... this is nothing more than just in your head. If your doctor said to you ... you eat a RR burger one more time and you'll have to spend a week in the hospital...bet you won't ever eat another RR burger again. You have to make the decision to eat elsewhere or eat better and follow through.0 -
i was awful, i used to go out at lunch, and i would end up getting 3 different things for lunch coz i couldnt walk past certain shops, then i started making a healthy lunch before work and would leave my purse at home, no money - no junk food, and i would either have to eat my healthy lunch - or starve!!! x0

You could always split an entree. My husband and I have started to do this. Saves money too With portion sizes being sooo ginormous, it's plenty for two and even he is filled up!0

To overcome, don't eat out.
It's just that simple.
Pack your lunches - do NOT eat out.0 -

I'd be miserable.
When I go out, part of the fun is eating so much I just hurt.
I limit myself to that once per month while as a fat guy, I was doing that twice per day.
And I wondered why I was so fat!0
