A bit of a rant.

Ok, so in school yesterday my class had our first nude model life drawing class. I was very impressed with how not awkward it all was, nothing sexual about it at all and everyone in the class was very mature and respectful. from what I saw anyways. So afterwards I was texting a friend of mine and told him that life drawing should be mandatory for men because It gives them a chance to see a naked woman in a neutral non sexual way. He replied with "hah, id still think about ****ing the broad." ...seriously?! I guess maybe I gave a little too much credit to the guys in my class? Or my friends a bit of a douche. Not really sure. I dont understand why men cant stop objectifying women. is it all guys or just the ones I happen to be friends with?
end rant.
end rant.

I feel artists have to ability to look at things with one focus. normal guys do not, they have no need too look at it artistically. I am an artist too and i love drawing from nude photos because you get a better feel of how the muscles show. my boyfriend always says "there you go looking at porn again" it kinda ticks me off0

You got a smart *kitten* answer from someone not taking the class.
Don`t let that kind of anecdotal thing be a representation of all guys.
No doubt the sex drive is high for us but it doesn`t mean that is the only thing we ever want and live our lives to that end.
There have been threads here at MFP about shirtless guys with most ladies cheering that on so take stuff like that for the context it is in.0 -
I objectify men. =]
I like it.
ps.. If there was a hot male nude model, you would be a bit different as well.0 -
Even if your friend is capable of looking at a girl artistically and trying to portray that figure, he was probably just trying to be macho at you.0
-
Meh - He's just a guy being a guy - trying to be funny. My husband is most non-womanizing, non-douchey man I've ever met and he's always throwing out "That's what SHE said"s. Don't sweat it0

We are wired that way. Period. The guys in your class are serious and mature enough to not say anything. Your friend was being honest. Every straight man in the room though about it.0

yerah and women never ever objectify men lol i used to work as a cashier at a chip n dales type place and the women were way way worse than men that go to strip clubs. I remeber the male dancers would have bruises all over their thighs an *kitten* from women pinching them and stuff0

Sorry it's built into our DNA - we literally can't help it. Regarding your friend - his statement lacked originality, tact, and cleverness - for that $20 in the DB jar.0

If I were in the class and it were a male model I would have a little somethin somethin going on, I know I would. Not as crass as your friend though. And I do take art classes.0

Me too.
Honestly, I know why you're frustrated, but we all objectify people sometimes. If there were a gorgeous guy up there, yes a part of me would appreciate how his body is constructed and how the light hit his broad shoulders and would be able to put it into an artistic perspective.
The other part of me would be thinking naughty things, though!0 -

Well sh**.... now I wonder what my gynecologist thinks of all day. :ohwell:0

I think he was just being honest...I see where you are coming from but men have a way different way of looking at things. My ex-husband told me that when I was in labor with my daughter my moaning was kinda turning him on. LABOR AND DELIVERY IS THE LEAST SEXY THING I HAVE EVER DONE! If men can take it there then a naked woman sitting still is just a playground in their minds lol0

I'm sure he appreciates the more attractive patients. But then, he is a professional and has a job to do. I remember when I was younger and a friend's girlfriend passed out on the toilet. He had gone out for more beer. Another friend and I heard the crash. We went in, cleaned her up, got her pants on, and put her to bed.
You see the stuff, your mind clicks, you click it back off and do the job.0 -

When you boil it down, we're mammals with a drive to procreate. And men are visual. What do you want?
The issue is not whether men might think that but whether they would rape the woman. That's the line. Thinking something and forcing it upon someone are different things. I don't think this is worth the energy it takes to be upset. But it's your energy, so use it as you wish.0 -

^^ thank you.
im not an artist but i enjoy whipping open my pastels , and prisma colors and spend 8 hours articulating whats in my mind on a canvas. With that said, you can only be artistic when you appreciate the "makeup" of things. Women are beautiful because of the difference in symmetrical curves, and textures, starting from the corners of her eyes, to the lines of her legs. AND dammit i love me a curvy attractive woman, and cant help but think _____ because they do things to me internally that words cant define.
I dont objectify women but id get very little done if i were to be in your class with that model.0 -
Men are pigs.
Women are pigs.
put a sexy curvy women in a class full of men... - guys will think shes sexy and drool...
put a sexy shredded man in a class full of women... - women will think hes sexy and drool...
human nature and dont feed me ur BS that in your case it would be otherwise!!!!
as for the for the reply to ur thread... ur friend does sound little bit of a pig as i would never say something like this to another female friend(only thing u can be mad at is him saying something like that to you)... you also have to remember that when ur in room full of "artist :P" its ur hobby its what you love to do... and when you have a nude model you love your work and you are concentrating on what you are doing and doing it properly and paying attention to all the curves, shading, contours so you dont have time for ur mind to wonder into "sexual thoughts" vs someone e.g. ur friend (that is by the sounds not in ur art class) who would walk in see a naked chick n start to draw doodles because he doesnt know how to draw and he would be paying more attention to the naked women then the work hes doing...
the point im trying to make is its same thing as a gynecologist... he works with womens privates all day long... its his job.. he doesnt have anything sexual in his mind except his job (atleast i hope soo) but if u were to put a random guy in the office n tell him to shove fingers in a girl what do you think would be running through his mind?0 -
As some one that spent 4 years of my life doing life drawing, it depends on the person in general! The people i drew funny enough were homosexuals and fantastic to draw! really knew how to pose to test you! and i found they were very helpful!
how ever i found when it came to the ladies (my fave part of life drawing as i adore the female figure in art) the boys who would be there to draw them would come out with remarks and make them feel very awkward either that or they would go bright red, I think in gernal its just how boys are, They only ever have one thing on mind imo! But alot of the time i play on that! even at work i do! (sexual banter is high in our office...and its hillarious!)
i think your right, But the good thing about it is, if they were sat there naked and thought about *banging* some one it would soon show, and then they surley wouldnt do it again!
edit- there is also the fact that when you draw these people they no longer come across as another human being(technically removing the sexual aspect), they become an object, Its sad to think of it that way as so many people are unique in many ways!0
