Binge eating.

I've been suffering multiple types of eating disorders for the past 6 years. At first it was anorexia, and then bulimia, then anorexia with a binge/purge sub-type, then back to just anorexia. Now I tend to go back and forth from heavily restricting for months at a time to binge eating like crazy (I'm talking up to 6,000 calories in a sitting) Recently after a bout of restricting, I was trying to recover again and start eating a normal amount of calorie, but all that happened was I began binging late at night after I had already eaten all those other calories as well. So now, my initial response is to go back into restricting mode, but I know once I start binging, I'm just gonna keep binging. I'm very freaked out because I don't want to put back on a bunch of weight because I finally am at a weight I am happy with. I guess my question is, is if anyone has any miracle advice they'd like to give me on how to stop binging. So far nothing I've tried has worked but I thought it'd be worth a try to ask on here.

Group therapy. Eating disorders are just that, disorders. They don't go away, you just learn better coping mechanisms to handle the urges and addictions. I would suggest looking for local eating disorder therapeutic groups or a therapist who specializes in eating disorders. Good luck!0

I totally agree with Meghan. Therapy combined with a sensible eating/exercise plan is what will do it for you. I would combine group therapy (there should usually be some free group sessions in your area if you Google it) and professional therapy to help you cope with not only your urges but your overall view of yourself.0

Thank you guys. I've actually been discussing going back into inpatient with my therapist and my family, I think it might be the best idea at this time.0

I noticed you live in Cali. I worked for a brief time at a clinic that worked with folks struggling with eating disorders. Check out this link to the clinic (also maybe go to the resources tab, for additional information): http://www.altabatessummit.org/eatingdisorders/index.html
I don't know you, but I am concerned for your health. Like the others said, I highly encourage you to seek professional support. Best wishes to you! It IS possible to overcome your challenges, and emerge a healthy & happy individual. I have seen it, and many of those men& women go on to inspire others to seek help, and change lives for the better. Again, all the best to you!0 -
