Do you give yourself mini goals/rewards?

I have started my "final" weight loss journey (have started many times but always quit....this time I'm determined to make it to my Goal Weight!) so I have never actually set mini goals or rewards for myself. I am on the fence about whether or not to do the whole reward system. Part of me feels like setting mini goals will help me stay motivated, because they are not so far away, but the other part of me feels like I should have my only goal be my goal weight, because I can see how far away it is and how hard I have to work at it to make it.

Those of you that have had success, do you feel like the mini goals and rewards have helped you out in the end?

I've set mini-goals. 5lbs here, 10 lbs there and so on. What I DON'T do is set a date to meet that goal. I think I would be upset if I didn't meet that goal by the date I had anticipated....you know? That way, I'll meet my goal when I do and I don't have to stress about NOT meeting that deadline.

I think it's good to set mini-goals because otherwise the number just seems so far away and it can seem like a daunting task.

Wishing you luck with your goals. Chin-up! YOU can do this!

Yes, my friend and I are doing this together we set a goal/ friendly wager to be at by June if one doesn't make it the other buys pedicures if we both make it we will treat ourselves together. No sabotaging allowed.

I do. If I work out and eat right for a certain number of days, I get myself a new workout article of clothing. Just this weekend I ran to Kohl's and got 2 new tops and 2 new bottoms. It makes working on easier not having to put everything in the wash immediately, and I look forward to working out even more.

Mini goals: absolutely. You should break down any large complex life changes into manageable obtainable “mini goals.” Small incremental changes, supported by achieved results, builds one’s self confidence and over time = huge results!

Rewards: absolutely. That is rewards supporting/reinforcing your goals. As an example, when I break the 175lb barrier I’m buying a sprouter rack and sack of broccoli seeds off of Amazon to power charge my morning smoothies. Yeah!

I do! I'm doing the 30 day shred, & I give myself a reward after each level. I used to reward myself with food (BIG mistake)... Now I reward myself with new workout dvd's I've been wanting, tattoo(s), things like that. It helps to keep me motivated.

I don't necessarily plan to give myself a reward... but if I try on a pair of jeans and they're a size smaller than usual, i'm gonna buy them! It definitely motivates me to carry on :) also I agree with the above about it being a lifestyle change, i'm never going back to the way I used to be. This being said i'm not NEVER gonna have a take away again, or not drink alcohol again, just everything in moderation :)

When I first started out, I did. I think I stopped doing it around 30 pounds ago. I def. needed it. I had tried and failed so many times, that I needed the little incentives to kick start me. I'm actually contemplating making some more to get me past other goals i've made recently.

just make sure it doesn't involve food as a reward. Mine were stuff like a new straightening iron, a night out with friends (since i spent most of my time at the gym), new work out clothes, and reg clothing.

I didn't have a date to have it done by, just by weight.

    GOOD LUCK!
  • ok worked out i have 100 lbs to loose. i need to loose 39 to get to 200 lbs so that will be my first big goal think i,ll set my first goal at 13 lbs and that will get me below the next stone.... now need to think about reward. I do have an outfit i bought yrs ago nothing excotic just jeans t-shirt and nice wee jacket, i've never worn them but would love to get into them they're a uk 16 so not an insane size to achieve but i sure would love to go out for a night on the town with hubby wearing them x

I just read a great article on this. Weight loss is the result not the goal. I have to get better at this. I get so focused on the numbers of the scale that it can make or break the next week.

This gave me new perspective and the ultimate goal is to be in a "healthy" range not "obese". Of course that comes with weight loss. But to achieve weight loss I do believe its the daily/weekly goals we set for ourselves which is hugely impacted by mind set. Which is the hardest to change! Choosing to eat right. Choosing to exercise.

So - work on the mini goals and now to find a reward that is not food related. My first instinct is to treat myself to Cheesecake factory and a bottle of wine. No can do. It'll have to be a new outfit! LOL

    Good luck with this!
  • my first goal is to drop one clothins size by feb 18th, ive lost 9 pounds and my pants are alittle loose so I am well on my way. Mt reward will be a new outfit for a party i have been invited to. it will be the first time i have seen a lot of my friends since ive started this and I want to look as great as i feel!
