I did the elliptical trainer for 30 min and the machine showed that I burnt 400 cals where MFP is showing 512. I have been counting the MFP cals so far, but I am tempted to think that MFP is over-estimating. Has anyone else experienced this? I am looking for a good HRM so that I can get a accurate count...TIA

For some people it overestimates, for some it underestimates, for some it's fairly accurate. And it varies from activity to activity. And honestly, the machine isn't going to be much more accurate, if at all. If you're looking for accuracy, yeah, get an HRM.

Machines are rarely accurate. I find that MFP underestimates for me - I assume it's due to my age.

If you're not sure, use the lower count. You certainly don't want to overestimate exercise calories.

I feel as though it gives me credit for more than I deserve too, at least compared to the machine. I too want to get one of those gadgets that you wear and it counts for you. Maybe I will ask for that for Valentines Day rather than chocolates. I record my exercise, because I want it in my records, but I have yet needed to eat back the calories it gives me for it.
