How do you deal with TOM pains?
Pills usually don't work for me and just make me sick, I've tried hot baths, heating pads and they work, until I get out of the tub, or removing the heating pad, then they come back full force.

Normally I just try to keep moving whenever I have it, but the first day or so their so crazy I don't even want to move.
It also doesn't help when its later in the day, like now, its 10 pm, so I can't really get up and go walk outside, ( I don't trust walking around my town at night far to many drunks lol)

Any ladies have anything special they do/use/eat that helps keeps cramps away?

Thermacare makes heat wraps especially for that. They are awesome and discreet!

My girls and I all had issues with that (the girls both used to get such bad pain they'd throw up). We went to a naturopath who helped us each regulate our hormones. Took my oldest a couple of months and now no more pain (years later). I highly recommend it!

Ibuprofen as soon as I know they are coming.

    Exercise.

If they're brutal, and I can, I often will curl up with a heating pad and doze off until they pass.

Mine have all but disappeared since I got on BC. Thank God, cause for years they were so bad that I'd have no choices but to curl up in tears.

Also, the Thermacare heating pads that are adhesive are GREAT when you have to go somewhere but are in pain. I stick one on my pelvis and one on my lower back.

My TOM used to be terrible. I actually fainted twice from the pain. Then I started taking birth control and it's all better :D

Bananas. I donno why but eating a banana seems to help me some. And, not to be indiscreet or anything orgasms do help too.

If I don't eat all the chips and fries and pizza and chocolate I crave right before.. I find it really helps ease the pain. Stay hydrated and force yourself to at least go for a walk.. I find the more I work out the better I feel even though a tub of ice cream and a warm blanket is more my cup of tea!

Oh and yes.. Ibuprofen is amazing!

THIS! Bananas work because of the potassium same thing with potatoes but healthier...potassium helps with cramping all over too not just that tom cramps. i would check your food diary and see how much you are getting if its under i highly recomend getting it up :-)

I second the thermacare sticky pads. They are pretty discreet and really helped me in the past. After a few years of being on the pill and having a baby, my cramps aren't as bad as they were in my younger years. :)

I finding hot tea helps me the best. Ginger is tried and true as well. Since I have been working out I haven't really had very bad ones and drinking a lot of water seemed to help. I never tried banana's but I do regularly take potassium supplements..hmmm .. maybe it's not the working out that has helped! lol

If they're so bad that you feel immobile, you should consider getting checked for PCOS. I had horrible periods, where the first day or so I literally couldn't get out of bed, and throughout the period I would get horrible cramps and stabbing pains at random, to the point where my vision would temporarily black out. When I was diagnosed with PCOS and began taking metformin, my periods became MUCH more tolerable. They still hurt, I still get those cramps, the occassional stab, but it's NOTHING like it was before. So that's definitely something to look into.

As for taking the edge off, heating pads usually really help. And if you don't have any heating pads, I often use my laptop. :P It gets REALLY hot when I use it (which probably isn't a good thing I realize), and so I'll rest it on my belly and it really helps to ease the pain. :P So heating pads, definitely. I also like drinking tea, I find it soothing. I noticed someone also mentioned banana's. They do help as well. Maybe not instantly, but they can help ease and prevent further cramping because they're very high in potassium. So have like one a day while you're menstruating and that should probably help too! And like someone else mentioned, avoid the chocolate and junk food, or try to, as much as you can, because even though you're craving it, they can worsen cramping.

Did you all know there is a group for ladies to go to discuss their monthly visitor??

    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/779-periods-period

I am a huge fan of the Thermacare pads ... I couldn't find the period-specific ones in my local store last time, so I just bought a pack of the neck pain ones and used it in the same manner.

But, honestly, after a few months of consistent exercise and watching what I'm eating, my period symptoms became much more manageable. Good luck everyone!

If your cramps are that severe, you should get checked out. My co-worker had a minor surgery due to the cramps and she feels MUCH better now.

I would try this out... http://www.sagewomanherbs.com/store/#ecwid:category=1481553&mode=product&product=5934083

It comes in powder, pills or tincture... the powder or tincture can be mixed into a smoothie without really having to taste it so much, and it also helps absorb it without getting sick.

    Hope this helps =D
