What exactly is a "cup" of water?

It recommends 8 cups of water a day, but what measurement is a cup? I try to drink most of a 2 litre bottle of water a day, which equates to about 4 large glasses but is that the equivalent of 8 cups?
We don't have "cup" as a measurement in the UK, but think it is a US measurement, anyone who can convert it to litres or pints for me?
Thanks

I would like to know this too!
Is a cup equivelent to an average sized mug? or a tea cup?
Im drinking tall glasses and i count those as '1 cup' per glass but it may be more?

If you convert 250 mls to fluid ounces it is 8.45 fl oz.
I just used a measuring cup and poured it into a favorite glass and remember about where it stopped, sometimes I drink above that line so I know I have a full cup for sure.0 -

In the United States, 1 serving=1cup=8oz.0 -

1.5 litre bottle of water (which is what i drink) is 6 glasses and 2 litre bottle is 8 glasses
hope that helps0 -

2 litres - assuming each "glass/cup/whatever" is 250 ml.
I normally have 3 bottles 750ml each, carry one with me all the time.....0
