My daughter takes Lcarnitine. She has a fatty acid oxidation disorder. It helps shuttle glucose into the mitochondria so that it is burned cleaner and easier since she is missing the gene that shuttles fat to the cells during periods of fasting or crisis.0

Does nothing for weight loss.
L-carnitine
The Claim: L-carnitine is a nonessential amino acid abundant in the heart and skeletal muscle. It carries long-chain fatty acids across the inner mitochondrial membrane for oxidation. In other words: your fat is hypothetically burned as energy. It’s been assumed that an increase of carnitine within muscles would increase the oxidation of fatty acids, and in turn result in weight loss. The Facts: There is no compelling evidence that muscle carnitine is the rate-limiting step for fatty acid oxidation. Even worse, L-carnitine supplementation has failed repeatedly in studies examining its effect on weight loss [17,18].

It is not used for weight loss in my daughter. It is a supplement due to her lack of genes to oxidize and help protect her heart.0

do what? Ok.
It is found in whole foods. 100g of ground beef contains almost 100g of carntinine.0 -
She takes a perscription form of Levocarnitine. She has VLCAD. When she fasts, her body breaks down muscle instead of fat because she is missing the genes that break down very long chain fats. Her specialist told us that the carnitine helps to protect her heart and shuttle glucose into the mitochondria.0

I tried it awhile back, didn't notice any weight loss from taking it.0
